" Tell me you don't love me, and I won't ever show you my face. Push me away so hard that I'd stumble to even look at you. " He leaned closer to my face. " Push me before I kiss you, before I cherish every inch of you. " His palm trace...

VESTA'S POV
I let out a groan, slumping back against the couch as I rubbed my hands over my gritty eyes.
Stacks of textbooks, loose papers scribbled with notes, and at least four empty coffee mugs littered the living room around me.
Finals season was in full swing, and I felt like a battle worn soldier who'd seen one too many bloody uphill charges lately , I mean the bloody sheets of paper. My body ached from pulling far too many all-nighters over these past few weeks.
I picked up the half-empty mug beside me and took a sip. Yep that had definitely crossed over from lukewarm to ice cold and viscous, the bitter taste making me gag.
Studying through the night last night had been a necessity though , tomorrow was my capstone one last push, and I'd finally be graduating.
The very thought sent a giddy thrill zinging through my drained body. Could I actually pull this off?
My phone's ringtone shattered the silence then, nearly making me slosh cold coffee all over my couch.
It was Miguel calling, his handsome grinning face flashed on the screen which brought an immediate surge of warmth through me.
"Hey Guel. " I croaked, clearing my throat to dislodge the sleepy rasp in my voice. "What's up?"
"Please tell me you aren't still up, studying like a crazy person?" Miguel's teasing tone was gentle. "It's 3 a.m., Ves. You're going to run yourself into the ground before your big test tomorrow."
"I don't have a choice." I protested with a halfhearted groan, slumping further into the couch cushions. "If I don't pass this final, I'll never graduate. It's make-or-break time, Miguel."
He made a soft tutting noise, that warm caramel voice of his instantly soothing some of the panic fluttering in my chest. "Love, listen to me , you're going to knock this final out of the park because you are the most brilliant, hard-working person I've ever met. Just do your best, and it'll all work out like it's meant to."
My boyfriend's unconditional support and faith in me was a soothing balm I didn't realize I desperately needed.
"Thank you, guel. I'm just tired of stressing out about this weight over my head, you know? I can't wait for it all to finally be over. To just live again without this crushing pressure."
"So live a little. " Miguel chuckled, a teasing note creeping into his honeyed tone. "Come over to my place after your finals tomorrow and let me take your mind off things? We'll watch terrible movie marathon. I'll be waiting for you. "
"That honestly sounds like heaven," I sighed wistfully. "You really are too good to me. "
"Ah ah ah," he playfully chided in that husky accent that never failed to quicken my pulse. "None of that now. I'm simply giving you something to look forward to as a reward for kicking this final's ass tomorrow. So get some actual sleep tonight, and come to me confident with your most beautiful smile. "
