*Papyrus’ POV*
After a few months of training, Gaster began coaching me alongside my older brothers. It was evident the fucker relished inflicting pain on us during our sessions. (Sans and Mincho had introduced me to this particular word to characterize Gaster and several others.) Despite Mincho’s remarkable ability to heal us to near perfection with his magic, Gaster didn’t hold back during our training sessions. However, he eventually recognized that we performed significantly better when we fought together.
Sans excelled in close combat, while I specialized in long-range attacks; Mincho had a versatile skill set but couldn't bring himself to take a life. His unique soul trait prevented him from killing, yet it also made him an exceptional healer. Thanks to Gaster linking our souls, Mincho discovered a way to utilize his green magic for offensive purposes, much to Gaster's satisfaction.
It quickly became apparent to Gaster that when Mincho supported Sans and me, we completed our missions and battles with remarkable efficiency.
"I believe keeping you three together will advance my plans," he remarked after we were returned to our enclosure.
I felt a surge of joy at the prospect of staying my brothers. However, apprehension set in on the day Gaster led us to the room at the end of the hall. My brothers were visibly shaken by the sight of the door, instinctively pulling me close for protection, which only fueled my anxiety about what awaited us. With a commanding gesture, Gaster opened the door and instructed us to step inside.
As my brothers gradually stepped into the room, their grip around me tightened with each movement. Once my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I noticed a woman suspended in the center, weeping. I attempted to wriggle free from my brothers' hold to assist her, but I found myself unable to move. Just then, Gaster entered and positioned himself beside the distressed woman, declaring:
"Today, Papyrus will discover an important lesson on acquiring Lv and Exp. Now, Papyrus, step forward and eliminate this human using your blaster yumi."
The woman's sobs intensified as she pleaded, "Please, no! Just let me return home! I want to go home!"
Determined not to harm someone who might be innocent, I shook my head and clung to my brothers' arms. However, Gaster wielded his blue magic, pulling my brothers away by their very souls, lifting them off the ground on either side of him as he stood by the weeping lady. He then wrapped a hand around their necks.
"Choose to kill the human, or your brothers will pay the price instead."
As he began to constrict his grip, I could see the anguish in my brothers' eyes, their lights flickering under the pressure.
Enough already! Stop right there! I have no desire to take a life, but I won't let you harm my brothers!" I urged Gaster firmly.
"Listen up, you spoiled child; in this world, it’s either you eliminate or you become the target. Are you willing to watch your brothers perish?"
As I noticed Mincho starting to fade and Gaster’s grip tightening, I swiftly summoned my blaster yumi. I aimed my arrow directly at the lady, who immediately broke down in tears.
"Please, I can't bear to...!!!"
Without hesitation, I released my arrow, and it sliced through the lady’s skull effortlessly. Her head fell forward, blood gushing out. Gaster released Sans, yet still suspended Mincho with his magic, but he had stopped choking him. My surroundings faded from view as my entire focus zeroed in on the lifeless figure before me. I sank to my knees just as Sans rushed over to envelop me in a comforting embrace.
"We aren’t finished here. Sans, it’s essential that Papyrus learns to harness his magic for combat, so you’re going to guide him immediately. And witnessing his response to his first kill? It’s definitely going to be an eventful day."
Time Passes
Gaster finally decided to call it a day and brought us back to our cage for some rest. However, sleep eluded me; every time I tried to close my eye sockets, the faces of those I had slain that day haunted me. Mincho and Sans huddled at my sides, offering their support, until Mincho’s soothing voice broke the silence with a song.
"Dear sweet child,
No need to cry
I will hold you tight
So sleep all your worries
And care away
No need to be scared,
You are out of harm's way
I will keep you safe and warm
Love you every day
Reach your tiny hands for the light
Take your future and make it shine
So bright
With every lie, I am crumbling
And dying inside
Wanting to save you with all
Of my might
But this world is against me,
I cannot fight
They steal you away,
Out of my sight
But I still pray and I hope
That you'll live today
Find your own strength, please
My dear run away
Don't be weak or afraid,
Let your soul lead the way
I hope, and I pray, you'll be alright."
I fell asleep to Mincho's lovely song and voice while Sans hugged us both protectively.
With the allure of Mincho's beautiful melody, I finally drifted off while Sans wrapped his arms around us both, guarding us with an unwavering sense of protection.
