My day off and I get to spend it with my nephews. A pep in my step as I close and lock my apartment door before getting in the truck and driving down the road.It is the weekend, meaning that Kaira is taking a shift at the Diner once again. She had paused taking a weekend shift for a year after Simon was born but has since returned to her schedule.
I knock on Kaira and Erik's front door and wait for a minute before it is opened wide. Erik smirks. "Ready for today? Samuel has talked about the new video game since you took him to get it a couple days back."
I chuckle and walk into the house. "Always ready to video game."
"Uncle Josh." Samuel walks into the living room as Simon holds onto his hand.
"Hey buddies." I bend down and scoop Simon up into my arms as he giggles. "Are you going to help Uncle Josh win the video game today?"
Simon shakes his head.
"No?" I put my lower lip out and Simon giggles.
"Help big bub." Simon points to Samuel.
"Ohh." I nod. "I think big brother does need help." I smile wide and bend back down to place Simon on his feet.
"No sugar today Josh." Kaira points at me and I raise my hands.
"I would never baby sis."
Her eyes narrow. "Just like last weekend? Simon told me all about how Uncle Josh let him have chocolate before dinner."
I smirk and cross my arms. "He still ate dinner though if I remember correctly."
Kaira opens her mouth and closes it quickly before huffing. "Fine but for future reference please no sugary foods past seven or he will not go to sleep until early morning hours."
I nod. "Noted and I wouldn't do that." I smile and hug Kaira.
She kisses Samuel and Simon's head then moves to Erik and I turn my back to them as they do their kiss thing. I hear as the door shuts and Erik walks over to where I have sat on the couch, watching Simon play with some toys on the floor as Samuel is with him.
"Are you working today?"
Erik sighs and shakes his head. "Not today. Darly is working with the investors with the new game and there is another friend of mine playing it through the test cycle to make sure there is no glitches. Kaira doesn't need my help today at the Diner."
"This one took you a bit to do."
"Close to three years now." Erik chuckles. "Next week though, I will be home with the boys and we are taking some time off from the Diner. My parents are coming in for a four day visit."
"Do you and Kaira need me at the Diner? I do have a couple days off next week."
Erik shakes his head. "No Terry said he had the Diner covered with Kate and Mason."
"Who is ready for video gaming?" Samuel looks up and I nod with Erik.
Samuel pulls out the remotes and puts a disc in his machine. As the game loads, Simon walks over and climbs to sit next to Samuel. It makes me smile as Samuel shows Simon buttons he can press during the game. It may just be one button for Simon to press but to the little boy it is everything he can help his brother and play the video game.
The race begins and Erik's elbow nudges mine. Simon laughs watching us nudge each other while playing the game. Samuel laughs. "You can press the blue button now Simon."
The screen for Samuel flips upside down and we all end up in laughter.
"Wrong blue Simon." Samuel laughs. "This one."
"Oh. Blue." Simon smiles and we begin the race again. He gets the blue button the second try and he claps as we cheer for him getting the right button, which also helped Samuel win but Samuel said it is both of their win.
Simon walks over and crawls into my lap. I place the remote down, and tickle his ribs. "What would you like to play Simon?"
"Video game." He points to the television and I nod. Picking up the remote, Simon takes the thumb controls and moves them slowly as I control the gas on the vehicle since his hands are not big enough to do everything. Simon does well for being a little over two years old with video games.
"Time for us to make lunch." Erik places his remote down and Simon jumps from my lap as Samuel goes to one player mode as Simon wants to play with his toys on the floor.
I stretch and my back pops before I walk to the kitchen and wash my hands. "Got something in mind for lunch today?"
"Just some quick pizza?"
I nod. As I turn, I see his face and raise a brow. "You look like you want to ask something?"
Erik chuckles and shrugs. "How would you feel like making up those philly subs?"
I laugh and he opens the freezer, I see the meat I would use there. "Pull it out and I will make it up tonight."
Erik fist pumps the air and the boys in the living room cheer. Before he puts a pizza in the oven and sets the timer, I open the fridge and see that all the fresh ingredients I need is there.
We all eat lunch and then play more games, before I excuse myself from the couch. Erik takes Simon to his bed as he has fell asleep for a nap. I wash my hands and the door opens as I finish drying my hands. Kaira walks in and smiles. "Dinner?"
I nod. "Making up the philly subs."
She whisper cheers and walks to the hallway before I hear a door close. Samuel plays on the gaming system still as Erik walks back in and washes his hands. "Need any help?"
I begin preparing the meat and Erik begins chopping up the vegetables needed. I toss them into a pan to lightly sear for the flavor to burst more. Kaira sits on the couch as her and Samuel race against each other.
A chuckle slips from my lips as I watch them. "Still not any better after years of playing video games."
"Some of us are just not meant to be good at video games." Karia shakes her head. "Is the food ready yet?"
"Almost." I nod and Erik hands the rolls over.
I take a knife and slice through the bread, before putting it all together. Erik takes plates to the table and we all sit down to enjoy dinner together as Kaira brings Simon in to eat dinner.
Karia and Erik insist on cleaning from dinner and I sit on the couch with Samuel and Simon.
"One more game Uncle Josh?" Samuel looks over.
"You know it." I nod and he hands me the controlller.
