A whistle and pep in my step, I open the Diner's door and enter."Need to put a order in?" Kate walks up and I shake my head.
"Had one called in about thirty minutes ago."
"Let me check on it for you. It has been busy this morning with a that fishing tournament crowd coming through."
"You tend to the customers and I can walk back and check on it."
"Thank you." Kate pats my shoulder before taking off to the tables and refilling drinks. Mason working just as hard as she brings plates out from the kitchen section.
My feet move through the Diner and I open the kitchen doors. Kaira is cooking on one stove and Terry on the other. With a glance to the office, Erik is at the desk and working away on his computer one handed while holding Simon in the other. "Yo, Josh." Erik calls.
I walk into the office to Erik. "Busy day? Let me see my nephew." I take Simon from Erik's arm.
"He has refused nap time but has been content just sitting in my lap playing with his toys." He lets out a breathe and nods. "Daryl sent over some presentation samples I have to go through."
"You presenting first then instead of just releasing the game?"
"My investors think it would be a wise idea." Erik grimaces.
"You don't?"
"The new game is not even in testing phase currently and not set to be for another three months. I think it is to soon to present the game with a date to release if the game has issues I have to work through during testing."
"Go for it. I know last we talked Daryl mentioned this one could be the largest you have yet to design."
Erik rubs his neck. "That is what the investors are saying too, how it will boost sells."
"Go for it."
"You here for dinner?"
I nod. "I ordered it for pick up though." I bounce Simon lightly and he laughs as his eyes start to close with his head leaning to my shoulder.
"You go get your food and I will take Simon back."
I scoff. "I almost got him asleep." Then step back when Erik stands up. "I am in no hurry and nothing to do this evening, you tend to work and I will take a seat on the mini couch here with Simon."
"Your food will get cold."
"So be it. I can heat it up once I get to the apartment." I shrug with the shoulder opposite of the one Simon is currently resting his head on.
Work was a light day as there were parts that didn't make the shipment date. Saul told me to go on for the day. A week as passed since having dinner with Rachel and Jade. We still have spent our lunches together and we have a date planned out for this weekend since Jade is going to be staying with Samuel again. I am just so glad those two are such good friends. Samuel needed a friend and so had Jade.
Light snores come from Simon and I rub his back just a little.
"Josh?" Kaira stops in the doorway and I smile.
"Hi baby sis. Got Simon to take a nap." I chuckle.
Kaira shakes her head and holds a food bag. "I was bringing this in here because it had been sitting on the counter a bit now and didn't want it to get took with one of the other orders on accident."
She places the bag on the edge of her desk.
"Thanks."
"I am shocked you're not with Rachel." Kaira raises an eyebrow and smirks, Erik stopping his work and joining Kaira with the look in my direction.
"She had some housework to tend to before Jade got home from school." I smile.
Kaira nods.
Before they could say anything else, the door opens to the back and Samuel walks in.
"Kaira?" Terry calls out and she kisses the top of Samuel's head before leaving the office and going back to the stove.
Erik closes his laptop down and walks over. He sits on the couch and I pass Simon to him. "I am going to get the boys home for the evening."
"How was school?" I look to Samuel and ruffle his hair.
"Normal and got the homework to prove the teachers really don't want us to have time to do anything but work."
I chuckle and pat his back. "You will have it done before you know it."
"Yeah, you are probably right." Samuel sighs and I grab my bag of food as Erik comes back from telling Kaira they were leaving. I open the door for him and Samuel, then walk out with them. With a wave, I get in my truck and drive to the apartment.
Just as I sit at my couch with my food slightly heated, I flip on the television. Going through some of the sports channels and catching up on the games that I didn't watch but just curious on the scores. My food is gone within no time and I clean up the plate I used.
With a sigh, I leave the television on but look around the apartment. I get some laundry going and begin cleaning. After vaccuming the carpets, my phone buzzes in my back pocket and I pull it out.
"Hey." I answer seeing it was Rachel.
"Josh?"
"Jade?" I pause mid-stride as I was moving to put the vaccum back in the closet. "Is everything okay?"
"I don't know what to do."
"What is wrong buddy?"
"Aunt Rachel. She is bleeding pretty bad on her leg."
"Where is she?"
"On the dining floor trying to clean her leg after I got her the first aid kit and I didn't know how to help with her not letting me over there."
"Can you put Rachel on?"
"Yeah." Jade mumbles and I hear a bit of shuffling around.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Jade said you hurt yourself?"
Rachel lets out a breath through the phone. "I did and I won't let him get close I had him toss my the first aid kit. The glass door on my china cabinet shattered when my broom fell into it and I was on the floor scrubbing a stain from the carpet when it happened. Any way, when I tried to get up the glass cut my calf up to behind my knee and I can't get the bleeding to stop."
"Hang tight and I will be right over to help."
Leaving everything where it is, I run to the door and grab my wallet and keys before locking the apartment and race to my truck.
