51. Lavender Lotion

My phone pings and I pick it up to see it is Erik. They are inviting us over for dinner.

"Erik wants us to come over for dinner." I rub Rachel's arm as she leans against my chest.

"That sounds nice." She nods and sits up. "What time?"

"He said whenever we want." I shrug and reply back that we will be be there.

I walk to Jade's room as Rachel goes to the kitchen. I knock on his door frame. "Hey, we are going over to Samuel's for dinner."

He fist pumps the air. "Yes!"

I walk back out and Rachel is trying to reach up. "Let me." I grab the container from the shelf and place it on the counter. "What are you doing with these?"

"I figure we will take dessert." She shrugs and I smile.

I pick the box up and grab my keys, we lock up the house and get in the truck. The drive is short and Jade jumps out fast as Erik opens the front door. Samuel and Simon greet us as I help Rachel out of the truck and up the stairs. The boys all take off towards the hall and into Samuel's room to play video games no doubt.

"How are you feeling?" Kaira hugs Rachel once the door is closed.

"Good, just ready for her to be here." Rachel laughs lightly.

"Come over here and have a seat. I am just finishing dinner."

"She is making a fancy one too." Erik chuckles and we walk to the table taking our seats.

"What are you making sis?" I lean back in the chair and take in the delightful scent of the food.

Kaira smiles as she turns wiping her hands on a towel after tending to the food briefly. "Lobster ravioli with garlic bread and roasted vegetables."

Rachel hums. "I have never had that but love lobster."

"It is very rare that Kaira makes this."

"Yes, because the ravioli takes forever to make." Kaira laughs. "Are you still working?"

Rachel nods. "But this one doesn't like it." She points to me and I shake my head. "I just can't sit around the house all day and I only work half days. He almost didn't want to go to the lake yesterday."

Kaira beings bringing the food over, Erik and I jump up to help while we push Rachel to stay seated. She huffs but doesn't protest any further. The boys all come racing in and take their seats. Kaira and Rachel make sure their plates are filled first and then we all plate ours as the boys eat. Many compliments go around the table for Kaira's cooking.

With our stomachs stuffed, Erik and I being to clean the table of the plates and put the food away that was left. Kaira takes Rachel to the living room and they talk while sipping on some sweet tea. I wash the dishes as Erik places them away in their spots.

"What are these?" Erik nods to the box of macaroons we brought.

"Dessert." I open the lid and Jade comes racing in.

"Is it time for dessert?"

Erik and I laugh with a nod. The boys take two each and race back to the room. Erik and I walk over to the couch and place the box down for Rachel and Kaira.

"These are so good." Kaira eats her but I notice Rachel nibbles hers lightly before placing it on her napkin.

I frown and watch as her face contorts to a pinched expression before she shifts in her spot and goes back to talking with Kaira. Light chatter goes around about how the Diner is doing. I hear how Daryl is doing as we talk about Erik's game.

The night wears on and I notice that Rachel wiggles every once in a while in her spot on the couch. She begins to yawn and we all bid Kaira and Erik a night before going home.

"Can we play a game?" Jade holds up a racing game.

"Sure give me a couple minutes." I smile and walk to the room where Rachel rubs her back. "Are you okay? I noticed you seemed uncomfortable at times tonight."

"My back is hurting." Rachel sighs. "I think I am going to soak in a bath for a little bit."

I nod and kiss her lips. "Let me help you."

"No, no. I am good, you go play a video game with Jade." She smiles and kisses me again before grabbing her book and waddling to the bathroom, before I hear the water running.

I walk back out and Jade has the game started up. My eyes look over and make sure that Princess and Chuckles have plenty of food in their bowls before picking up a controller and racing Jade.

Within a short time, Rachel comes out in her pj's and sits on the large chair with her book. After another hour, Jade is yawning and we call it a night with the gaming. He hugs Rachel before going to his room and closing the door.

"Did the bath help?" I squat down and rub her bump.

"It did help to ease the stiffen in my back but it still hurts some." Rachel sighs.

I stand up and hold my hands out. Rachel takes them and I help her up, I make sure the door is locked and turn everything off in the living room aside from a small lamp before we walk to the bedroom.

"Lay on your side, sweetheart, I will massage your back." I kiss her neck and she waddles over.

I grab the bottle of lavendar lotion and help her remove her shirt before she lays on her side. I walk around the bed and sit down by her lower back. Adding a bit of lotion to my hands, I begin rubbing her back and feel the tight muscles. Slowly working through the knots, Rachel hums.

"You're amazing." She mumbles.

I chuckle and continue working. Eventually the muscles are relaxed and Rachel is snoring lightly. I move gently and kiss her cheek before putting the lotion up and climbing into bed once more. I turn the lamp off and pull the sheets up and over the both of us, pulling her into my arms as darkness claims me.
