Four weeks later...
A whistle flows from my mouth as my step is bordering on a skip. This past month has been full of happiness, since finding out that Rachel is pregnant.
We have not told anyone as she wishes to wait until her appointment tomorrow. Rachel's infected cut on her leg has healed nicely and there is no signs of morning sickness for her since either. Just this very strange need for her to be drinking some type of lemonade within the last couple of days.
Any free time I have is spent with Rachel and Jade. Other than three Saturdays I have went to Kaira's to watch Samuel and Simon so that her and Erik were able to work. One of the days Jade even went with me to their house.
"I got another ticket finished." I lay the paper on the desk as Princess purrs and demands my hand to rub against as she always does. My eyes flick over and Rachel is by the coolers and mumbles come from her mouth. "What are you doing?"
"Counting." Rachel turns to me quickly with a smile before looking back.
I walk over and see she is moving worms into containers. "We got a new shipment in."
Rachel nods and closes the lid on a container before placing it in the cooler. "There all done."
"I could have done that." I frown.
A laugh leaves her lips. "Your job is to fix the boats not tend to the stock in here. I am more than capable of sorting the bait."
"Not scared of getting dirty?" I tease as I know she has no issues with bait having seen her tend to it before.
She shakes her head. "Nothing some soap will not clean."
I chuckle and pull her into my arms. Placing a kiss on her lips. "What do you want for dinner?"
Rachel hums. "Cajun stir fry."
I nod and think about all the ingredients at her house. "I can make that happen."
The small bell chimes and Rachel pulls away from me. She walks over to greet the customer and I wave to the guy that is here to pick his boat up. They talk at her desk, and I see Princess curl up in Rachel's lap as they settle the bill for the added paint job done.
"Here is the receipt." Rachel hands the paper to the guy and I nod.
"I will help you get the boat trailered."
"Many thanks. It is hard to back it up right with the mirrors on the truck." He laughs and I join him outside and walk around to the boat dock.
"Pull around to the back and I will guide you."
He nods and I walk until I am standing by the boat. Within no time the guy is leaving the parking lot with his newly red glitter speed boat, along with many praising words about the boats work. The shine on that thing makes me smile knowing that beauty will shine on the water.
"Josh." I turn to see Rachel hanging out of the back door.
I jog over and she hands me a piece of paper. "There is a guy on the phone that is wondering if you would do a house call?"
I look at the paper before looking up to Rachel.
"He stated there isn't a trailor for his boat and he can't get it to the docks here."
"I'd have to talk with Saul."
"Saul mentioned coming to talk to you because I caught him in the break room."
I shrug. "Sure just get his information for me and I will go over."
Rachel nods and walks back into the shop. Saul steps out a moment later with a half eaten sandwich in hand and I glance at the time.
"It is lunch time." Saul nods.
With a sigh, I run my hand over my face. "I will grab something light. There is a couple boats still to be done that are expected to be picked up by the end of the day." My hands grab the clipboard and look over the papers left.
Saul eats incredibly fast and snactches a slip from my hand. He walks to the dock and I walk inside to my lunch box. Rachel turns and hands a sandwich to me. "I made these this morning. Swiss cheese, no mayo with lettuce along with a ham on french bread."
"You're the best." I kiss her cheek.
"Just wanted you to have something more than a granola bar in your lunch box that you were undoubtedly going for. I knew it was sa busy day." She smirks and takes her sandwich with a bottle of lemonade to the front with her.
I step back outside and eat the sandwich quickly before brushing the crumbs off and strolling to the docks once more to the tool bag left on the bench. Time alludes me as I work on different parts of a motor to get the wiring hooked back up correctly, a squirrel has no mercy on things like this when a boat has sat in storage outside for a better part of four years.
Wonk! Wonk!
I hang my head. "Not again." I mutter and turn my head in time to see the goose on the dock barreling for me with its wings flapping.
This time of year is the worst as the birds come back and are meaner than ever being hungry from their flights back. I turn back around to ignore the animal and contine working.
"Hey Josh." I turn back to see Jade walking on the dock.
"Hey." I wave a hand up.
"You got a friend."
I stand up and turn to see the goose is just standing at the edge of the dock watching as I have worked. It hasn't moved and I shrug. "Guess so."
Jade pulls a bag from his backpack and tosses the bird the crust from his sandwich. The bird takes the crusts and flies off the dock.
"What brought you down here?" I wipe my hand on the towel and he shrugs.
"Curious to see what you are doing and Aunt Rachel is still busy."
I glance at my watch and see there is an hour left from closing time. "Want to step over in here and watch? I can teach you as I work."
"That sounds cool." Jade smiles and climbs into the boat with ease.
I turn back to the motor section and go about explaining to Jade what I am working on. Jade asks a couple questions as he watches and I explain further. Finally down to the last wire, I look around but can't find it. I bend down and move my hand along the bottom of the motor as I try to search the wire out.
"Found it." Jade speaks up and I look up to see him holding the wire.
"Want to attach it?"
"Really?" Jade looks up to me and I shrug once more.
"I don't see why not. There isn't anything on that could harm you and you have seen me hook up the other wires."
Jade nods and takes the tools. I watch closely as he hooks the wire up and smile with a nod when he turns to look at me. "Good job." He high fives me and I move over to start the boat up, it runs with ease and I turn the switch off.
