Kayla

After the rain.
It's either very beautiful or messy.
Mine is very beautiful.

I had never expected the way life played out. It still scared me.
It all seemed like a dream and I was afraid I would wake up to realise it wasn't real.

He was here, he was mine.

It had been 3 years. 3 years that had been surreal. The best years of my life. We had decided to move to Massachusetts and it worked out well because his business had expanded so there wasn't much left in Chicago and New York for us.

"Hey Elliott, could you please pass me the meat. Everyone is about to arrive and the barbecue is not ready yet."

"Yes ma'am. Look, Kay. Relax, you can't work yourself out much. It's not good for you in this condition."

"I know, but this has to go well. We have been waiting for this for a long time. And ...."

"Mama, I want ice-cream."

I was interrupted by my 3 year old. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever set eyes on. His  jet black curls fell onto his face, partly covering his grey eyes. He looked a lot like him.

I was always in awe whenever i looked at him, he was effortlessly beautiful.  Everyone that saw him had the same reaction.

"Mama..."He called, pulling me out of the stance I  had put myself in.

"Papa..." He said in excitement.

Before I could say anything, he ran towards his father who carried him effortlessly from the ground and put him on his  shoulders.

The resemblance was remarkable.

My two boys.

"You are almost drooling, babe."
"Mama is almost drooling...." He echoed his father's words as he laughed.

"You are making a team against me you two." I said pretending to frown yet my smile gave me away.

"Of course. And the baby will also be on our team as well."

"Not fair." I said walking away from them only to be pulled back gently and into his arms.

He still looked at me the same way he did, the first time.  His eyes were warmer this time, but still made my insides roll. I could never get used to it. It was like his eyes peered into my soul.

"I thought we were on the same team amoruccio. "He said, as he lowered his head to meet mine and kissed me.

"Ewww... papa...."

"Yeah get a room you too." Elliott called out.

"Are you jealous, Ellie?" Ian mocked.

"Oh please. And why would I be? I have my own wonderful lady. He said as he looked lovingly at Millie who was setting the table. I still couldn't believe those two were together.

Everything was perfect.

Ian laughed as he looked at Elliott.  Somehow they had worked out their differences and he didn't hold anything against him.

"Enzo, come on I will get you your ice-cream." Millie called, so Ian put him down.

It was his birthday. And our parents and other family and friends had flown in. We had planned to organise a small barbecue but just like Ian was, he somehow made it a grand affair.

"So, Mrs Stevens, where were we?"
He said, lowering his head once again and kissing me.

"I prefer, Mrs. Rossi. Mr. Rossi." I said after we both pulled away from the kiss.

"As you say, Mrs. Rossi." He smiled, his smile still as beautiful.

"Now, you have to sit down, it's not good for u to be working while u are in this condition."

"Oh come on Ian. Am pregnant.  Not disabled.  And besides, the guests are almost here. Plus, it's nothing like my first pregnancy.  I am fine."

"You act like a kid when you are pregnant.  Look, we will handle everything.  I just want you to rest."

"Yes, Kay. I will handle the barbecue. You need to rest. "Elliott interjected.

"Okay okay. You guys just know how to rebel against me."

They both laughed.

Ian helped me to one of the seats and sat down with me.

Enzo came running towards us again with an ice cream cone.

He sat on my lap and laughed as Ian tickled him, the most beautiful sound I had ever heard.

Everything was perfect. And as I looked at them, I couldn't help myself from smiling.

I kissed him on the cheek,as he ate his ice-cream.

"Where's mine?" Ian joked.

He lowered his head and kissed me once again.

"Thank you."
He said.

"What for?"

"For letting me start a beautiful family with you. I love you, amoruccio. "

"I love you, Ian."

We smiled and laughed as our son whined about how his ice-cream was finished as though he had not just finished it himself.

I was thankful.

My after the rain was green and beautiful.

I had no complaint.
