Caelus' PoV
Days turned into weeks, and I still couldn't get anything from Alon. Whenever I mentioned Carl, he acted as if he didn't know him. I kept a close eye on his movements within the company. He never visited Carl's office, not even once; he always remained in the Art Department. He once claimed he didn't have a phone, which I didn't believe for a second. I was just playing the part they expected me to play. I knew I was taking a risk for my revenge, but I felt it was necessary.
By now, Carl might have figured out that I was taking Alon out to dinner regularly. But how were they meeting?
Wait, Alon never allowed me to drive him home. That's how they must be meeting. I needed to check; my impatience was growing. Today, I bought a necklace for him. I planned to confess my fake feelings for him. Any alpha would fall for it, especially with him acting so innocent. But not me; I could see the wolf hiding in sheep's clothing. Did they really think they could outsmart me? They should think again.
I planned to take him to a club tomorrow night, where there was a party one of my acquaintances invited me to attend. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to make Alon confess. I'd make him drunk. As the old saying goes, there is truth in liquor, and I would get that truth even if I had to force it out of him.
As usual, I took Alon to an Italian restaurant to dine with me. By the end of the meal, I confessed my fake attraction to him. He looked surprised, but I managed to make him believe it was genuine.
"I'm going to a party tomorrow night, and I want you to come with me," I asked, hoping he'd accept. But why wasn't he agreeing? Then he looked at me sadly. "I guess that look means you can't," I said, genuinely disappointed to have missed a golden opportunity.
"I really want to go with you," he said. "I'll see what I can do and then call you."
"Well, that's better than not giving me anything to hold on to," I replied, hopeful that he might reconsider. But I wondered why he seemed unsure. I chose to keep my questions to myself.
"But I don't want to promise you anything," he clarified.
"I understand," I said. "Well then, shall we call it a night?" He nodded. I got into my car and started the engine. Peeking out of the passenger's side window, I said, "Take care, Loony. Dream of me tonight. Let's meet there."
I couldn't believe I said that. It felt disgusting, especially saying it to someone I loathed. I started to drive, but then quickly turned the car to the next block and parked near the bus stop where Alon was supposed to wait.
He appeared, smiling like a fool and even pinched his cheek. He really believed what I said. He was so gullible. I was glad my plan was working. The bus arrived, and he got on. I began to follow the bus, stopping at every bus stop it passed. I tried to check the passengers who got off.
"Come on, any time now," I muttered impatiently to myself as I didn't see him. I continued following the bus until it led me outside the city center. "What the hell is this place?" I looked around, puzzled. The bus stopped at the next stop. I parked my car nearby. Alon got off and headed into an alley. I quickly turned off the engine, got out of my car, and started following him, trying to trail him as quietly as I could.
We traversed a long, dim alley. I pulled up my handkerchief from my coat and covered my nose. "What's that funky smell?" I wondered silently as I noticed trash scattered along the alley. My heart nearly leapt out of my chest when a rat as big as a young cat scurried in front of me. I desperately wanted to leave, but I was determined to find out where he was going.
After some time, I saw him enter a wooden gate. I slowly approached and hid behind the fence, peeking to see him talking to an old woman drinking tea on the porch. I couldn't hear their conversation, but I assumed this was where he lived. I couldn't stand another second there, so I decided to leave.
