Caelus' PoV
Ever since I relinquished my role as Chief Operating Officer of FunHouse, my days have been consumed with damage control, mitigating the fallout from my stepbrother's reckless decisions. It wasn't until Dad paid me a visit in my office recently that I fully grasped the extent of his disapproval. I knew I had to tread carefully, lest I further alienate myself. Going against Carl was out of the question; any move against him risked irreparable damage to the company's reputation in the industry. Thankfully, Layla, his secretary, kept me informed of Carl's every move.
"Mirabel, what's on my agenda this afternoon?" I inquired as our car navigated through the city. We'd just concluded a visit to the toy factory to assess facilities and engage with employees, a responsibility befitting my new role as Chief Operating Officer.
"You have a meeting at five with Mister Yamamoto regarding the Japanese papers they're importing from Japan," she informed me.
"Another art kit, I presume?" I glanced outside, contemplating our upcoming discussion.
"Yes, Sir," she confirmed. "They're calling it the Summer Art Kit this time."
"Essentially the same contents as the Spring Art Kit?" I raised an eyebrow, seeking her insight.
"Upon review, they appear quite similar," she admitted.
"How can you say that, Mirabel?" I turned to her. "You've been with me for quite some time now. Regardless of the name or color palette, these art kits lack originality and excitement."
"I apologize, Sir," she responded apologetically. I waved off her apology, the topic dismissed. As we arrived at the SkyHaven Main Office, I instructed her, "I'll head straight to the meeting room to prepare for the discussion with Mister Yamamoto. Could you grab me an iced americano from the nearby café?"
"Certainly, sir," she agreed.
"Thank you. Feel free to pick out a drink for yourself as well," I added, acknowledging her efforts.
"If you insist, Sir. Thank you," Mirabel replied graciously.
As I strode towards the entrance, employees paused to greet me respectfully. Just as I reached the elevator, a familiar voice called out, "Sir! Sir, hold on!"
Turning, I confirmed my suspicion—it was Mirabel. She hurried over, catching my attention. "What are you doing here? Didn't I ask you to get us some coffee?" I inquired.
"You dropped your phone," she explained, handing it back to me.
"Ah, thanks," I acknowledged. "You could've given it to me later."
"It started ringing, so I thought it might be important," she justified. Glancing at the screen, I noticed a missed call from my stepsister, Cassandra. "I'll get going, Sir," Mirabel said, excusing herself. I nodded, allowing her to leave, before continuing towards the elevator.
"On the sixtieth floor, please," I requested as I entered the elevator, my mind preoccupied. Peering outside, I spotted a figure at the entrance—an omega with brown wavy hair and sun-kissed skin. Recognition struck me like a bolt of lightning, memories flooding back from that fateful night. "It's him."
Panic surged within me as the elevator doors began to close. "Open the door! Quickly!" I demanded, urgency lacing my tone.
A nearby passenger hastened to press the open button, and the door parted, but I didn't wait for it to fully open. Darting out while it was still halfway, I scanned the entrance, but the omega had vanished. Determination fueled my steps as I hurried outside, calling out, "Oh, no you won't! I've searched long enough for you!"
