I heard a knock on the door and quickly returned the newspaper to the table before answering it. It was Mrs. Gibson. "Oh, good morning. Come in," I greeted her warmly.
"Good morning, Loony. Has our little angel woken up?" she asked as she entered the flat.
"Oh, he's still sleeping like a log," I replied with a smile. "He spent almost all night crying, as usual."
"It must be tough for you, Loony," she said sympathetically.
"It is," I confirmed, chuckling softly. "But I can't resist how charming my Miu is. I never knew I could love someone so much until he came along. Suddenly, my world revolves around him. I love him more than words can express."
"I'm sure you do," Mrs. Gibson agreed, her eyes filled with understanding.
"I promise to do my best for him. To give him everything he needs. I'll be the best mom in the world, and I'll make sure he never feels like he's missing a father," I vowed.
"Loony, if you don't mind," Mrs. Gibson began seriously, "Can I ask you something personal? Consider this like a conversation between a mother and her child."
"Sure, what is it?" I replied, curious about her question.
"You said Miu's father is dead," she said gently. "What exactly happened to him?"
I sighed, knowing I couldn't keep hiding the truth from Mrs. Gibson. "Fancy a cup of coffee?" I offered, hoping to ease into the conversation.
She smiled and nodded, and I quickly prepared coffee for us before settling down to tell her the truth about what happened a year ago.
"So, what's the plan?" she asked me after I finished recounting the events.
"Plan? For what?" I questioned, feeling a bit puzzled.
"Are you not even going to try to find Miu's father?" she inquired.
I shook my head firmly. "It's better this way. What happened between us was a mistake. I'm sure he doesn't want anything to do with our child."
"How can you be so sure that he would turn away from his own flesh and blood?" Mrs. Gibson asked.
"To be honest, I don't have any idea," I admitted. "But I've experienced the feeling of being unwanted by my own family. I don't want my child to go through the same thing. I'm enough. More than enough for him."
"You know you can't hide the truth forever," Mrs. Gibson pointed out gently. "Eventually, when Miu grows older, he will start asking questions."
"Then, I'll just keep telling lies and hiding the truth," I argued stubbornly. "It's better than telling him that his father and I are total strangers."
"I understand your reasoning, Loony," Mrs. Gibson conceded with a sigh. "I believe you're doing what you think is best for your son."
"Thank you. Anyway, have you already tended to your plants? They might get jealous of Miu," I teased, trying to lighten the mood.
"Thank you for reminding me about them, but I've already finished watering and talking to them. That's what I did before coming here," Mrs. Gibson replied with a chuckle.
"Mrs. Gibson, do you mind taking care of Miu for a while this afternoon?" I asked, getting to the point.
"Oh, you know I don't mind at all. For little Miu, I would give him all the time he needs... Are you going out?" she inquired curiously.
"The truth is, I'm planning to find a job and continue working for Miu," I explained, feeling a bit nervous about sharing my plans.
"Are you sure you can?" she questioned, concern coloring her tone. "You know, you can just stay and take care of your baby."
