CHAPTER SIX:
Markie didn't come home that night. I waited for her on the couch until I fell asleep and found myself the next morning tucked in a soft pink blanket that Maya owns. Apparently, Shay already told them about what happened with Markie and I before even having the chance to tell them about it myself. I had to apologize to my friends as well for not telling them Julian was the LJ Hiro kept bad mouthing at the start of this year in case they felt betrayed that I hid that kind of secret from them. At that time, Hiro was still on good terms with our friend circle. He was being kind to us which was why every word that came out of his mouth, we believed it. He'd hang out in our house until Markie fell asleep almost every night and we never complained about anything they were doing even though they were just fuck buddies.
At some point, I almost thought they were becoming a real couple when they act romantic towards each other, especially Markie who'd look at him with a sparkle in her eyes. It looked like they fit together until Hiro realized Markie wasn't the missing puzzle piece he was looking for. He found it in some girl he met on vacation before named Bea. Talk about fate, as what he described in his instagram post with her two days after ending things with Markie. Yet fast forward to the present, it looks like they both forgot about it by the way they're cuddling each other in the cafeteria. They're both eating lunch with Jae; another guy I hate. Markie is acting like I don't exist at the moment and I don't think she'll talk to me any time soon. Without even taking my eyes off of them, I took my phone to look at the notification I got. I saw Julian's name and my heart immediately ached from his messages I wasn't responding to since I never came back inside the coffee shop yesterday.
"Still fighting?" Maya asked as she put down her plate of salad. Her eyes watched Markie and Hiro laughing at the other table when she sat down. I nodded while glancing at them from across the cafeteria, "I don't know what to do, okay... she said she was just wasting her time talking to me–that I don't understand her which is crazy."
"Yikes." Maya exclaimed before biting a piece of carrot. I took a deep breath from how helpless I was feeling on the inside, "I mean... you forgave me. Naintindihan niyo agad yung point of view ko, so why can't she do that for me?" Maya glanced at their table before staring at me, "Yes, but I'm also not the one in a weird relationship with Hiro. My point is, I don't think she's mad at you for liking Julian. Isn't she the one pushing you the most to forget Kylo and move on with your life?" Her words made me freeze and think about all those times Markie pushed me to meet someone and fall in love with them.
Kylo isn't the one for you. That's what she always says, and every time I hear those words it pierces my heart even though a part of me knew she was right. If there's someone in my life who'd want me to fall in love with somebody else, it will be her.
"I just..." I sighed, "I don't know what to do." Maya paused for a second before clasping her hands together like there's a light bulb in her head that suddenly lit up. I started getting a bad feeling whenever she'd act like this sometimes, since she can't execute things well. "Why don't I help you?" She pleaded with a smile on her face, even holding my hands together as she continuously said please. "Come on! I don't want my two friends to hate each other over some brothers. This isn't The Vampire Diaries."
I stared at Maya for a few seconds before letting out a heavy sigh from defeat. She definitely had a talent to be persuasive where you couldn't help but say yes to anything Maya was requesting. "Sure–but nothing extreme like locking us in a closet or something, this isn't a movie, it's real life." Maya scoffed before laughing nervously, "Of course not." My eyes started squinting from her reaction, that was probably the idea she thought of. I took a few seconds to glance at their table so I could watch Markie happily leaning her head on Hiro's broad shoulder as they listened to Jae yap about something. I wish I could make her understand that the reason why I hate Hiro so much was because even though he's the reason why she had this genuine smile on her face, he'd also be the cause of her pain that I never wanted her to experience.
