CHAPTER FORTY:

I walked around campus as different organizations from various courses had set up booths for Valentine's day. Last year, the student council organized an anonymous love letter event where they mailed letters for students at school sent by anonymous people who wanted to confess in secret. This year, they're organizing booths with the assistance from the organizations created from their respective courses. I used to be a part of the journalism society at school, but quit afterwards from how dreadful the quality of their organization was. If I was still part of it now, I'm probably one of the people taking care of the tents in the middle of the field for their booth.

My classes are already finished for the day, but I still have to go home to continue reviewing for the upcoming exams in a few days. I was strolling around the field when my eyes caught my friends in one of the booths. I jogged towards the culinary booth where I found Yohan wearing his proper chef attire with his freshly prepared avocado bruschetta on the table. Yohan was pleading with Charlie to buy some food, but he was hesitant to give his money.

"Just try, I swear it'll change your perspective about avocados." Yohan put some bruschetta on a paper plate and handed it over to Charlie.

Our eyes met like he was asking for help, but I just shrugged my shoulders and watched Charlie struggle on the inside. There were other students already lining up in their booth just to take a glimpse of Yohan. Sometimes, I keep forgetting how good-looking my friends are that other people would go crazy even just by looking at them. Yohan didn't care enough about the attention, though. His eyes were fixated on Charlie, waiting for him to take a bite on the bruschetta he made early in the morning just for their booth. Charlie's eyes shifted between the two of us before giving in on the pressure we were putting on him. His mouth moved a few times before he paused–his eyes started to get bigger from the taste.

"Fine, I'll buy two." He said before continuing to eat the bruschetta.

"I'll take one." I said to Yohan before fishing my wallet out of my backpack. A smile started appearing on his face when we bought some of the food they were selling, which in turn made me happy as well.

After confessing his feelings for Maya four days ago, there was a sign of relief on Yohan that I didn't know would happen. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off of his shoulders and his life wasn't being directed by his love for her. He wasn't caged by the pain of seeing the two of them together since he already got a clarification on what Maya feels for him. She loved him back, but it will always be just as a friend. "Are you guys doing anything later?" Yohan asked while counting the change for the five-hundred bill Charlie gave.

"I have an exam in a few days and I haven't started studying, so..." I bit my bottom lip before taking a bite out of the bruschetta. "Plus, no one's asked me on a date yet since I'm single as fuck, so I guess studying it is." Charlie's eyebrows furrowed after hearing what I said.

He whispered Eric's name like he was asking why I wasn't going on a date with him and the only response I could give him was to shake my head. I'm trying to pretend like I'm cool with it but I'm gonna lie if I said I wasn't disappointed. I had already envisioned this day with Eric on it yet he's nowhere to be found. I heard a sigh come out of Charlie's mouth before he gave his answer to Yohan's question. "I'm gonna join Shay checking out the booths while she's waiting for Jacob to arrive, but after that it's just gonna be me binge-watching Harry Potter at home."

"That sucks." Yohan replied before handing him his change.

"No, it's actually really good. It's a lot of movies though, but–"

"I'm not talking about the movies, beret." Yohan interrupted Charlie from talking about Harry Potter. "You know what, it's actually perfect. The three of us can just go out later on a date without being miserable alone. I need a drinking buddy, anyway." Charlie groaned after hearing Yohan's proposal which I thought wasn't a bad idea, instead of wallowing alone in the house from not being invited on a date by Eric I could just drink myself to death with these two as a distraction.
