Vox laid in bed. It was 3 in the morning. Vox wanted to call Val and tell him what happened today but he couldn't. Val would laugh and say he was right but Vox needed someone and Alastor wasn't being that person. Vox contemplated on the idea of calling. Vox took a deep breath and hit the call button.
Vox was hoping Val would ignore the call but he instantly picked up.
"Only took you one week before crawling back," Val said over the phone.
Vox felt familiar with the voice as if he knew what Val was thinking. Vox felt a sense of comfort.
"Just seeing how fast you pick up," Vox said trying to hide his true reasons for calling.
"What he do?" Val asked.
"You assume it's going well?" Vox asked back knowing Val was right.
"Let me guess he pushed you away," Val said.
Vox wanted to run back to the tower but he just stood there listening.
"No?" Val asked. "Maybe he's too distant for you. I know how love your ego stroked."
Vox just listened.
"You know you have to speak when you call someone," Val teased with a laugh.
"Alastor is just Alastor," Vox said feeling betrayed that he showed emotions easy with Lucifer.
"You sound hurt," Val said.
Vox was confused it almost sounded as Val was actually concerned and cared.
"What do you mean?" Vox asked.
"What happened Vox?" Val asked in a serious tone.
Vox was caught off guard. There was no pet name or teasing but it sounded like he actually cared for him.
"I just thought I was the only player for his hand," Vox admitted.
"God you been spending too much time with him," Val said. "You're reverting back to speaking like an old man. So who else wants him."
"He kissed Lucifer and he didn't even think about it," Vox started. "It was so easy for him and he seemed genuinely happy."
"Shit," Val said shocked with that news. "So you are no longer in his picture."
"He said it was to gain power," Vox said feeling overwhelmed.
"Ok but," Val started. "What if he actually loves Lucifer and using you to gain power."
Vox felt him heart break. He was afraid of that seeing how Alastor was with Lucifer. Vox didn't want to believe it but Alastor showed no interest. Every time they got close Alastor pushed him away. Alastor didn't even say sorry for missing their broadcast recording.
"Vox?" Val asked on the other line. "No one would blame you if you came back to the tower."
Vox fell to the bed. Maybe that's all Vox was to Alastor now an enemy. Vox didn't know what he was doing or what he wanted to accomplish.
"Maybe I will," Vox said trying to hold back tears.
"Well let me know," Val said and he hung up the phone.
Vox rolled over and silently sobbed himself till he powered down.Alastor woke up early. Alastor remembered how distant Vox was at dinner. When Alastor walked him back to his room that night Alastor put his hand out for Vox to shake but he just turned and locked himself in his room.
Alastor walked over to Vox's door and knocked.
"Come in," Vox said but he sounded off again.
Alastor entered. "My dear friend, I thought we could do that little experiment we were talking about before everyone woke up."
Vox was laying in bed. Alastor was inside his room and standing where he just entered. Vox just stared at him.
"I'm good," Vox said he rolled over and turned his back to Alastor.
"Hmmmm," Alastor sung and as closed the door and walked over to Vox. "You were so excited for this idea. Why the sudden change of heart?"
Vox shrugged. Vox didn't want to speak to Alastor.
"Did I do something to upset you?" Alastor purposely asked this question. If Vox was feeling better he get all angry and throw a fit about because of Alastor's interaction with Lucifer.
However, that was not the reaction Alastor got.
"I'm just not interested in doing it anymore," Vox said with a cold tone.
Alastor felt a small heart pain as if someone told him no.
"You aren't interested?!" Alastor said angrily. "You love doing broadcasts with me!"
Vox heard the anger and if he turned around he knew we would see radio dials in Alastor's eyes. Vox continued to keep his back towards Alastor.
"Are you going to address me?" Alastor asked still sounding pissed off.
"Why should I?" Vox said still with no emotion. "You stood me up to go on a date with someone else. I was looking forward to this project as our chance to become something but you didn't see it that way. I get it you're done. I'll be nothing to you or at the very least someone you can destroy."
Alastor froze. Alastor heard nothing but pain in Vox's voice. Alastor folded his hands. Alastor was not sure on what to do.
The room was silent for about five minutes. Vox rolled over expecting that Alastor vanished in the shadows but he was still there. Alastor was standing hands folded looking down at them. Vox was surprised. Alastor didn't run away. However Vox knew this could be another trick.
Vox sat up and looked at Alastor.
"I'm going to go back to the tower," Vox said.
"What?!" Alastor said in shock. "But why?"
"I don't know who you are and what your true motives are." Vox stated. "I want to believe you like me back in some twisted way of yours but your actions say otherwise."
"My actions?" Alastor asked.
"Yes," Vox explained. "You reach out either with sex or attention but as soon as I reciprocate it you run away."
"I don't like being close to people," Alastor said shyly.
"Yes but Im not people," Vox said sounding annoyed.
Alastor looked up and saw tears in Vox's eyes.
"I can't keep doing this," Vox admitted. "We should go back to the way things were."
"No!" Alastor screamed and it scared Vox. Alastor recomposed himself and cleared his throat. "I mean I do not want that."
"Then what do you want?" Vox asked knowing he was going say Vox.
"I want you to stay in my life this time," Alastor said. "It's happening again and I am not going to let you leave this time."
Vox just watched.
"Alastor, I can't stay here forever," Vox said.
"I know," Alastor said. "I had a plan for that."
"A plan?" Vox asked surprised.
"I was practicing opening up and once I could be comfortable with the idea of being yours I thought we could split time here and the tower fifty fifty." Alastor explained.
"Wait," Vox said standing up. "You are planning a future for us."
"Why yes!" Alastor said seeing Vox liking the idea. "I'm not ready to lose you again or ever perhaps."
Vox just smiled at Alastor. Then it hit Alastor.
"That's what couples do," Alastor said meekly.
"Yes Alastor that's what couples do," Vox said reassuring him.
Vox was afraid Alastor was going to leave like always when they got to this point of the conversation.
"I would like to start a new deal!" Alastor said excitedly.
"And what's that?" Vox teased.
"Can we be partners again?" Alastor asked.
"One that's not a deal," Vox corrected. "Two what partners are you thinking of?"
"The ones like Charlie and Vaggie," Alastor explained.
"You want to become lesbians that own a hotel?" Vox joked.
"What no," Alastor said. "I want to be partners in a media empire."
"Ah business partners," Vox feeling a little disappointed.
"No," Alastor said taking Vox's hand. "Partners."
Vox felt himself blush as Alastor leaned in for a kiss. Vox was going to like this deal better than the last one they made.
