Pewds
There is fire everywhere. Screams are coming from behind the flames. I'm so close to them, and yet I feel no heat, but I cannot pass through. There's a barrier of some sort. I'm stuck where I stand. The screams are filling my head. They sound so familiar. I know those voices. I try to look over the flames. I need to know who they are. Why are they still inside? It's burning down. They'll die.
The flames suddenly disappear. There are bodies, burnt black and twisted into terrifying positions. They died painfully. I took a step back. I don't want to see this. I feel sick, I'm going to be sick. The smell of seared flesh rattles my senses. How do I get out of here? Why is this happening? Who are they? I hit the barrier, my back is pressed as far back as possible. I can't stop staring at the bodies. With a crack and a groan, their heads snap up. I whimper as the dark voids of their sockets stare back. They're mouths are moving, creating gargled and sickening sounds. Voices rang in my head.
'You're weak.' That voice... 'You thought you could protect us? Don't make me laugh.' Mr Grey...
"No," I shake my head as they used their mangled arms to drag themselves across the dark floor. "No, stay away!"
'You can't stop them." Another corpse whispered in my head... Clyde. "You couldn't stop them then, how do you think you can stop them now?" Images of the night my family were killed flashed through my mind. I grip my head so tight, desperately trying to stop the voices, the images. My family, dead.
'What's different from then?' Mrs Grey...
"Please... stop..."
'You didn't even tell us what happened to them, and now we have met the same fate... are you happy?'
"God no... I don't want this! I'm stronger! Bigger! I was a kid! I couldn't do anything!" I tried to reason with them. I held my head between my knees, not wanting to see them approaching. A thin, black hand reached under my legs, touching my face. I closed my eyes.
"Ryan..." I mutter. "I don't want this! I want you all to live." I'm crying. The tears won't stop flowing down my cheeks. "I don't know how to stop them... I don't know why they are here." I swallowed and felt the hand stroke my cheek. It felt a little different than it had at first. The warmth of the touch spread through my body. "Please... I will do anything to save you..."
'I know.' I look up and see his face. Not burnt, not hurt. Just smiling at me. He had a sort of glow about him. He was fine. I looked behind him. His family were there, smiling too. Mrs Gray moved towards us.
"I don't understand..." I murmur through my tears. Mrs Gray's smile turned sad.
'It's alright.' She said. 'We can help you. So don't shut us out so quickly.' She placed her hand on mine and gently pulled it away from my head. Ryan joined her, the both of them holding my hand. Before I knew it, Clyde and Mr Gray were there, holding it too. Our hands were all connected.
'We'll help you.' Ryan's other hand came up to my forehead. 'All you need to do,' he placed two fingers on my confused frown, 'is remember.' A blinding light erupted from his fingers. When I opened my eyes again, there were thousands of images floating around me. No, not images, videos, of a family. There were three of them. A man, a woman, and a girl. They were familiar. The views from the different videos was constantly changing. I walked over to one. There was a small kid, looking into a mirror. He's in a costume, batman. The view suddenly spun to see the woman from earlier enter the room. She was smiling, the warmth of the smile made my chest hurt. I knew her. There was laughter and cheerful sounds all around me. So many different voices. A sudden bang. I look over, locating the sound. On one of the 'videos' there was the vision of a gun. It had just been fired. My palm and finger twitched, like my muscles were remembering something. I watch as a man comes into view. He's familiar, in the other videos. He's talking, telling me about the gun with a smile. It seemed that whatever had just happened, he was happy about it. He moved out of the way to reveal a target. The holes where very close together, grouped in the center. The shooter was good, very good.
