For a minute, everything is white and beautiful.
I heard music and laughter and a couple of my middle school friend were there.
Everything was beautiful...
for a minute.
I open my eyes and see doctors talking to me, telling me to breathe.
I close my eyes again: bliss.
I open them and see doctors getting paddles ready, pushing them to my chest and feeling my body seize.
I close my eyes and I'm running through grass with a white dress on and there's a tree in the distance with lights strung around it.
I want that tree.
I step towards it but the ground starts to crack and screaming fills the air. Screams of sorrow and despair.
"Breathe for me honey. Just one little breath."
Someone is talking to me.
The crack in the ground is getting bigger but I don't want to go there.
"I'm calling it. What time is it?"
I'm dead now.
My hands start to slip because of the dewy grass and suddenly only one hand is holding on.
I shut my eyes tight and think about Star.
Star.
Star.
Star.
Star and Mom.
My mom.
The mom who really does love me.
"She's breathing!"
💀 💀 💀
My eyes flutter open and I hear the constant beeping of the heart monitor.
"Mom?"
I start to sit up but a nurse walks in and quickly pushed my back.
"Your mother left about an hour ago. You're sister was getting whine-y so she took her home."
Of course she did.
"There is someone else here for you though. Someone by the name of Hunter Woods. He's been waiting in the waiting room for a while with his girlfriend. Would you like to see them?"
Girlfriend?
I nod my head slowly and she walks out of my room, closing the door behind her.
Girlfriend?
How can he have a girlfriend this quickly? It's been a day.
The door opens and the nurse reappears with Hunter and Alexis behind her, holding hands.
"I'll leave you guys alone."
Hunter awkwardly stares at the floor and Alexis grasps his arm, pulling him closer to her.
I close my eyes and turn the other way, not wanting to be anywhere near them.
"Why don't you wait outside for a bit babe. I need to talk to Bear alone for a bit."
Babe.
Gross.
I hear the door open and then slowly close.
As soon as it does, Hunter sits on my bed and pets my head.
"Are you okay? Your mom called me last night and told me that you were in the hospital. Alexis and I rushed..."
