I woke up the next morning on a fuzzily familiar couch, the distant sound of sizzling and the smell of pancakes floating in the air.
I try and get off the couch, but the minute I lift my head, it explodes and I lay back down, clutching my head and groaning.
A couple of beeps sound in the kitchen and before I know it, the sounds of Cage The Elephants, Ain't No Rest For The Wicked, streams through the Wood house.
I try to get up again, but the pain stabs at my brain and I fall back on the couch.
"You awake, Bear?"
A soft whisper tickles my ear and I turn my head to see Hunter standing next to me with no shirt on and with some batter on his cheek.
I nod my head a little and attempt to sit up but Hunter lightly pushes me back down.
"You had quite a night yesterday."
I try to laugh, but I end up crying.
I couldn't even keep it together for 5 minutes.
Hunter kneels down next to me and grabs my hand, wiping my tear off my cheek with the other. His finger slowly moves down my cheek to my lip, lingering there for a bit.
"I was walking around town trying to find my mom a last minute gift for her birthday when I heard some familiar screaming," he smiles and takes his eyes off my lips to look me in the eye. "I get there just in time to see you hit your head." His eyes quickly cloud over.
"I thought he would stop, but he just kept hitting you. I rushed over to you and shove him off. He looked like he was going to hit me, but this girl that was by him pulled him away and they ran off."
He rubs the back of my hand with his thumb and tucks my new black hair behind my ear.
"Why'd you do it?" He twirls my hair with his fingers.
I put my hand on his cheek and I rub the stubble on his chin.
"I wanted to be another person. I wanted to feel like I wasn't just this messed up girl that no one loves. That no one will ever love."
He lets go of my hair and stands up, my hand quickly falling off his face and my knuckles hitting the floor.
I touch my head and feel something weird.
"I brought you to my house and my dad stitched you up. He knows how to do weird medical stuff like that."
I start to get up slowly, my head pounding but I'm not listening to it. I want to hug Hunter for saving me.
But mostly because I want to put my hands on him.
As I get on my feet, Hunter looks at me and sighs loudly, scratching the back of his head.
"I should probably go back to the kitchen to check the food."
He turns around on his heel and leaves me.
My heart breaks and shatters as I see him turn the corner to the stove.
Why?
Why do I care?
I plop back on the couch and rub my stitches, more tears streaming down my face.
Maybe Hunter Wood has made me love again.
💀 💀 💀
Warm water rushes down my body and soaks my new black hair, hitting my pancake filled stomach and falling down to my toes.
After a silent breakfast in front of the t.v, I got up from the couch and mumble to Hunter that I'm going to take a shower.
He nods his head and tells me that I know where it is and that he'll leave some clothes for me in front of the door.
