Chapter 29

 Darius

On the way home, I had an idea.

-You know what? Let's go somewhere else -I said and I turned the other way. -We're finally free. We have to use it.

I took him to the kingdom's biggest bridge, and we found a way to climb on top of it. We looked down into the endless looking lake.

-This is so calming, isn't it? -I asked while looking into the river and seeing my face.

The wind blew our hair, Jasper eyed the sky, and he looked at me.

-No matter what is happening around you, you act so calm...How? What is your secret?

-Well, I remind myself that nothing lasts forever, and that most things in life are temporary. This whole situation won't last forever, either.

The moment these words left my mouth, I felt a relief in my heart.

-I have an idea. Let's make this place ours. Let's come here when we can't take it anymore, even though we know it's all temporary.

I looked at him with no words, this was all I needed at the moment.

-But, what if we fall in the river? -I asked.

-That doesn't matter. If you fall, I fall.

I smiled slightly at him, but inside, I felt so much more than what a smile could show.

-No matter who we kill and what consequences there are, we stay together. Promise? -he asked, and he put his hand in front of me. -High five?

We high fived, and I looked back to the river.

-Can you lend me a rock? -I asked, and I threw the rock into the river. -That rock will stay there forever, just like how our friendship will never end.

He looked at me with a sad face, and it was impossible for me to understand why.

-What happened?

-Everything's alright. Well not quite. I remembered that I was paid to work against you -Jasper whispered,and he looked at me. -Are you sure I deserve any kind of friendship like this.

-We just made a pact. If you fall, I fall. You can't fall so fast. You're better than that -I said and I patted his back. -This feeling of yours is temporary, remember?

All that could come out of him was a smile.

-All things in life are temporary, but our attachment is eternal. Never forget that.

-What are you doing? Get off of there! -a local yelled.

-Can't you see we're in the middle of a discussion? A really important one, so wait a bit, will you? -Jasper screamed back at him. -We have to kill that one later.

I laughed, and I told him:

-I think we do need to leave, what if he calls the Queen or some guards?

-Ehhh, probably -he said. -Discussion over! Happy now?

We walked off and I remembered Dimitry: no matter how strong this friendship is, he will always be the first one. Nobody, absolutely nobody will overstep him. We were meant to be and there's no doubt about it.

Aria

-They sent us a letter! -I screamed in Irene's face when she was getting ready.

-Okay, okay, calm down. Read it! -she said while she was picking out a necklace.

I read the letter, and I started jumping around happily.
