O L I V I A
I was lying on the comfortable bed, asleep.
It was heavenly to be able to sleep, even if I felt someone was watching me from afar now and then.
Their eyes were gentle, yet they awakened me from my slumber.
I opened my eyes and sat up, wondering if I was still dreaming, when I caught the view of Mr. Everett sitting on the couch with a dark robe on him.
It was eight in the morning, according to the clock on the wall.
I had gone to bed two hours ago because I was exhausted, and the curtains were still covering the windows from the sunlight, but some of the light made its way out of the curtains.
"Mr. Everett?" I called out for the older man who was sitting on the couch, a coffee and a newspaper in his hands.
He looked in my direction with widened eyes.
"I apologize-"
"You shouldn't. It's your room." I yawned, laying my back against the bed frame as the covers of the bed covered my body.
"I shouldn't disturb you-"
"You aren't." I interrupted the man a second time.
I rubbed my eyes, which wanted to close themselves and head back to sleep.
"I should go-" The man began.
"Stay, I will just be laying here," I mumbled, trying to keep myself awake.
"And don't forget, I'm your personal therapist who will sell out all your dark secrets," I blurted out the first thing that came to mind, but I earned a chuckle from him.
I observed the man who was far away from me, who always seemed so lost, staring down at the cup of coffee in his hand as he laid down the newspaper.
I knew the reason for his lost gaze, and there could only be one person who created it.
Eleanor Everett.
"Do you love her?" I asked.
I wanted to know if he truly loved my mother because then it would be impossible for me to get revenge on her, plus I'm way too honest once I'm exhausted.
"Love who?" He asked me, putting the coffee on the table in front of him.
"Your wife." I was tired and not thinking clearly.
Okay, I'm not that tired, but I could excuse my exhaustion for my honesty if he got mad.
Mr. Everett stared up at me, frowning, with the same lost gaze in his eyes.
"Love?" He questioned me, or rather himself, as he sat deeply in his thoughts about his marriage.
"I don't think I have ever been in love with her, even if I did tell her that, it had been a lie."
He whispered those words out like he was making a confession, which he didn't want anyone but me to hear.
"I would call myself a bastard, but sometimes when I look at my wife, I don't think she loves me either. We're only together because we both gain something," He explains.
I stayed silent because I didn't want to utter a word, for he might regret talking with me about it.
"We gain popularity and status because we look so presentable together in front of the media," He says as he shut his eyes.
"Why are you with her?" My questions turned bolder.
He opened his eyes and stared at me, but he wasn't offended by it.
It was only silence in the room as thoughts seemed to pass his mind about his marriage.
"I... I don't..." He muttered, still lost about his marriage, not knowing the right answer to my question.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-" I stood up from the bed, forgetting that I was almost naked under the bed covers since I usually sleep in only my underwear and nothing else.
His grey eyes didn't seem to be so lost anymore as they found their way roaming my almost naked body. As my torn back was away from his sight.
He immediately turned his head away, clearing his throat, as I put on one of my shirts I had taken with me.
"I'm-" I tried explaining.
The older man stood up from his seat, not meeting my eyes.
"I should go now." He says, his voice thick and low, as he stormed out of the room.
I sat down on the bed with many thoughts on my mind about the older man who had walked out the room.
He had just seen me naked, and I felt the heat within me slowly building as more thoughts of the handsome man lurked.
At least I knew what I would be dreaming about when I went to bed, or rather, who.
