A groan left my mouth as I rolled out of bed and onto the floor. The blanket was being pulled away from my body, leaving me freezing on the cold floor.
"Kiara, I'm gonna kill you." I mumbled, still half asleep.
"I doubt that."
The girl chuckled.
I opened my eyes and saw her kneeling in front of me, a big grin sat on her face.
"Don't you have better things to do?" My tone was sleepy and hoarse.
"Not really." Laughing, she got up and walked away. I watched her as she sat down, legs crossed, on Rachel's bed. Their knees touched.
The two of them had been spending a lot of time together lately. I wondered what that was about.
"Why are you laying on the floor?" Harriet who just came out of the bathroom asked me.
Sonya joined her and looked down at me with squinted eyes.
"I think she got too used to crawling through the vents."
"No." I pointed at Kiara with my thumb. "It's her fault."
They followed my thumb to the girl and grinned.
"You should stand up." Sonya chuckled. "You're gonna get a cold."
"Nah, I've got my own personal heater right here." I pointed at myself to which she rolled her eyes.
Cursing something about mornings and Kiara, I grabbed a hold of my bed and sat up. Most of the other girls were already awake.
A few like Sonya and Harriet always showered in the mornings. I was way too tired and lazy for that. Showers in the evening were better anyway.
"I'm so hungry." Harriet complained while drying her hair with a towel.
"Me too." Sonya agreed. "Let's hurry."
I will never get their enthusiasm in the early mornings.

In the evening, I slipped out of my bed and put on my shoes quietly. Luckily, the door didn't make a noise when I opened it. Everyone was still sleeping peacefully.
This time my destination wasn't Thomas's room. I turned to the left and made my way to the end of the dark hallway. I never had a light, just the lighter Drew gave me. I had to rely on my eyes and my instincts.
When I brushed my teeth earlier, together with Sonya, I saw mum again. She was looking at me through the mirror. It was pretty awful. She wasn't smiling, she just stared at me with a stone expression.
Now I just couldn't get her out of my head. Together with her all the memories of my family came flooding back. I didn't wanna waste another second on thinking about my brother.
That was why I need a distraction. And what was a better distraction than exploring the Wicked compound at night, like I used to do.
It had been a while since the last time I did that. At least two weeks. But then again two weeks was nothing in comparison to the eternity we would spend here.
Years had passed by already. The thought of spending my whole life here freaked me out. And it was not the future I wanted for my friends. They didn't deserve any of this.
Sneaking around the next corner, I heard faint voices from afar. Guards.
They often played cards at their nightshifts. It was always funny to eavesdrop and hear them talk about Janson or their past.
