"Charlie."
Someone kept whispering my name.
"Charlie, wake up."
For some reason my head felt like it would explode any moment and when I opened my eyes I wasn't greeted my the usual dimm light in the bedroom but by complete darkness.
"Are you awake?" Another whisper.
I recognised her voice immediately.
"Sonya?"
My voice came out high pitched and I immediately regretted talking.
Sonya didn't seem to care about that though.
"Oh god, I'm glad you're okay!"
She attacked me with a tight hug. I hesitantly petted her lower back and looked around the room confused.
We were in the girls' room. But the others were still sleeping.
Why was Sonya awake? Why was she hugging me?
I tried to recall the most recent events but couldn't even remember what day it was.
"What's going on, Sunny?" I muttered questioning.
Her eyes looked a little sadder as soon as the words left my mouth.
"Do you remember what happened with Kiara?"
"No, what happened with-"
And then I remembered. I remembered everything from listening to Kiara's voice, to seeing her slam a knife into a guards body, to her being pulled away from Rachel and me.
"Kiara..."
My voice was just a whisper.
Sonya nodded slowly.
"Where is she? How long was I out for?"
"It all happened yesterday in the evening. They brought you back here and Rachel first had to go to the doctor because her hand is broken."
She didn't say anything about Kiara.
"Sonya, where is she?"
"She...no one has seen her since yesterday. She didn't come back yet."
Shit.
Worry filled my senses and I felt my breathing getting uneaven and rushed.
She had been gone since yesterday. One whole night alone with those people.
"What happened, Charlie? Rachel couldn't tell us yesterday and you weren't conscious."
I had to tell her about what Kiara had done. How would she react? And what would she say when I told her about the way I just watched and didn't help-
"I-I have to use the bathroom."
Her mouth opened to say something but I rushed out of my bed and locked myself in one of the cabins.
Apart from my breath which was going way too fast right now, there was complete silence.
I sat down beside the toilet and didn't move an inch until the light eventually went out. And then I didn't move either.
I didn't know if I sat there for half an hour or two hours but eventually I got up and walked through the bedroom and out the door.
Sonya must've went to bed.
I had no where to go other than Thomas's room. He would understand. I could tell him.
Or would he think Kiara was crazy? Would he blame me or get the guards?
No. Thomas wouldn't. I hoped.

As soon as he opened the door I straight up ran into his arms and buried my head in his shoulder.
"Woah, hello."
He stumbled back a few steps, surprised. But then he closed the door behind me with one hand before he wrapped both arms around my lower back.
I breathed in his scent and slightly relaxed in his arms. I could hear his heartbeat. It was fast.
I let go and looked in his eyes.
"Hi, Thomas."
He stared back at my eyes with a crooked smile as soon as his name left my mouth.
"Charlie." Then. "Is everything okay?"
While biting my lip in a nervous manner I slowly shook my head and kept my eyes on the floor.
In the corner of my eyes I saw him frown and take a step closer to me.
"Wanna sit down?"
I nodded and together we sat on his bed, facing each other.
A minute passed before the words could finally get out.
I told him about what the guard had done to Kiara and about her revenge.
He sometimes let out surprised gasps or looked at me shocked. When it came to the unpleasant part he took my hands and fidgeted with them in order to calm either me or himself down.
It felt strange to touch his hands so casual as if it was normal for us. Not in a bad way. Never in a bad way.
I met his eyes and let out a shaky breath, not pulling my hands away from his.
It had been a while since I had last seen him. Kiara and I didn't go to the meet up with the others and there was no way to let Thomas know so we just never showed up.
"I just don't know where she is now-"
And my voice was shaky and unsteady again. I felt like breaking something but at the same time I had no energy at all.
"Hey, hey, it's going to be okay, Charlie, don't worry." He pulled my hands up a little, then hesitated but pressed his lips against them for a moment.
His eyes were so soft, so filled with sympathy and warmth.
My lips formed a thin line and I tried to smile at him as I felt my eyes gloss over again.
He returned it with knitted brows and gave my hands another short squeeze.
All I could think about was Kiara. She had to be alright. I would never forgive myself if she wouldn't.
I had sworn myself to protect her when we first became friends. Another promise broken.
"Thomas,-" with new hope I glanced back up at his eyes. "You know those people, what could they do with Kiara? Do you have any idea what will happen to her?"
And he...looked away?
Irritated, I examined his face as he first avoided my eyes, then looked down and bit his bottom lip.
He fiddled with my fingers, probably without even noticing.
"No, I don't know, sorry."
"You okay?"
"Uh, yeah."
I nodded, unconvinced but too upset to overthink it.
I had no idea what time it was but I wanted to stay for a little while longer.
Tommy isn't honest with her...
