"What do you mean the door is locked?" Rachel stared at me in disbelief.
"I mean the door is locked. Wanna try opening it if you don't believe me?"
As the trio we now were, we were standing in front of the door with the code that led into the other part of the Wicked compound.
We had used the same way a few days ago when we had found that mechanic spider thing.
Today just to find out more about it we had sneaked out at night again to go through the door.
Exept this time it wasn't opening.
"Hold on, let me try." Harriet mumbled, clearly tired.
She passed us and pushed the handle down. I had already tapped in the code Thomas had told me. It wasn't moving so the girl tried again.
Without success.
"Told ya. It's locked."
Harriet let out a frustrated groan and took ahold of both mine and Rachel's shoulder. She pushed us back through the hallway we came from.
"Alright then let's at least get some sleep."
"But why is it locked now?" Rachel mirrored my own confusion with the situation.
"Don't know. Maybe someone noticed that we were there last time." I hoped not because if they knew it had been us then I would have to get ready for a third time in that shitty simulation.
Or worse...the maze.
"Let's just go back." I added, not so fond of getting caught again.

Two months later and there were only Rachel and me left. Harriet had been taken.

"I want payback."
"I know." Rachel answered, lost in her own thoughts.
...
"I miss her. Kiara. I-" Rachel turned her face away from me. "I liked her as more than just a friend."
I smiled to myself.
"I know."
A peaceful but painful silence followed.
"Rachel."
"Yeah."
"I really don't want to be the last one that's left."
At that her face darkened. "Me neither."
I swallowed away the lump in my throat. The room was dark, from the bedroom we heard the sound of breathing. The few girls left were all sleeping.
"I wonder what it feels like to...forget. Everything you know. That's crazy."
"Yeah, what if we just don't feel anything anymore? I mean we will forget everything that Wicked did to us."
I wondered if the gunshots would stop. And would I still see my dead mother in the mirror? I hoped not.
"What if we will hate each other in the maze?" Rachel stuttered, clearly upset.
"Sorry to break it to you but that's probably the case. I won't trust any of you."
"Shit." She cursed.
"What?" A chuckle. "You scared?"
She nodded with raised brows. "You can be quite intimidating when you want to."
