As Emily spoke, her heart began racing. These are all nice demons; Charlie wouldn't befriend them if they weren't, Emily reminded herself. Still, she couldn't avoid the soul she was most scared of, Vaggie.

It's not that Vaggie was mean. She wasn't. She always wanted to do what was right, which was likely the key factor that got her into Heaven. She was selfless and was willing to sacrifice anything at any given time to help a cause she believed was right, other than someone she cared about. Emily was sympathetic to this part. She understood being willing to do anything for what she believed was right, but never would she ever kill another soul. Vaggie had a good heart but was willing to kill for it. She'd do whatever it took, and while Emily admired that, it also scared her. What if she had to kill people in Heaven rather than Hell? Would she have done it? Also, she wondered; did Charlie know about Vaggie's past?

She didn't know her girlfriend was an angel, which was a huge shocker. She hated that she had been lied to and that big of a secret was kept from her. Vaggie kept that from Charlie because she knew Charlie didn't like angels. She didn't want her girlfriend to hate her for her species. If Charlie found out the full truth, just how angry would she be at the fact extermination was all Vaggie's fault? This thought scared Emily since she knew it could end Charlie's relationship if she told her. Emily decided quickly that she'd avoid getting in the way if possible. After all, why create conflict where there's already peace?

Emily was jolted out of her thoughts with the realization none of the souls had responded to her. "Guys, be friendly!" Charlie nudged.

Surprisingly, Angel Dust was the one to lead the conversation. "Heya, toots. I'm Angel Dust, the sexiest demon in all of Hell. Welcome to Charlie's lame-ass hotel." At this, he snickered.

Charlie looked very offended. "Hey, I poured my heart and soul into building this place! Be nice," she chided.

Angel laughed. "Oh, come on, I was just teasing. You take everything so seriously."

"Nice to meet you, Angel," said Emily, ignoring his snarky comments.

"I'm Alastor," said a tall demon with red hair and horns like a dear, "and I'm starving. You wouldn't happen to have some venison, would you, darling?"

Emily smiled. Alastor was polite and seemed kind; she liked him. "Um, no, I don't think I do."

"I'll give you something in turn, honey."

Emily thought for a second. She didn't know this man very well, but clearly, he had a thing for dear meat. Maybe she should see what he had to say, just to be polite. "Like what?"

Alastor grinned. "Maybe I'll feature you on my radio show sometime! It's the most popular in Hell."

Emily thought it couldn't be anything like Valentino's show. After all, they wouldn't be seeing her... stuff. Plus, she liked voice acting! "That... that actually sounds pretty cool!"

Alastor's painted-on grin grew wider and his eyes brightened, bursting into flames. "So, does that mean we have a deal? " As he said deal, the room darkened. A green, fiery ring encircled the two demons, and shadows came to life all around them, laughing and jeering.

This scared Emily. Alastor wasn't nearly as kind and calm as she had believed him to be. He seemed excited but had sinister intent. "No!" shouted the other guests. Emily shook her head and backed away in fear.

"Well, alright then," he responded, exasperated. "I thought this was a pretty good deal, but alright."

"Rule number one: don't make a deal with Alastor, no matter how good it sounds," lectured Charlie. "He's about as charming and sweet as they come, but that's all a mask."
