As I said, I am making a huskerdust oneshot! It's an AU from Husk's POV where they're both 12 and Husk just moved to Angel's middle school and it's set in the present day. Enjoy! :D
"Mom, please don't make me go!" I begged, Meadow Ridge Middle School looming over me. I got kicked out of my last school for kicking butt at a school fight. Mom always said I had to stick up for myself, which I did, but the principal said I 'took it too far'. In all fairness, I think punching someone in the gut is a fair response to a bully saying, "Ew, a depressed emo!" when I was crying the day after my bird died. After all, it's not my fault the bully's appendix burst from the bunch and he died! I didn't know I was that strong. Also, why did everyone expect me to feel bad? The bully was a jerk, nobody liked him, and the world is better off without him in it.
"Husky, you have to go. I know you don't like school, but it's good for you," Mom responded.
"I don't care! It's just a filthy wreck of sport-loving freaks." These were always the meanest people, forming their cliques by their sports, and ignoring and hating everybody else. Mom will never understand.
"I know you think I don't understand, but I was once a 12-year-old, just like you. I know what you're going through." What the heck? How did she know exactly what I was thinking? Mom magic is crazy! "You'll get through it- everyone does, after all. Now, get out of the car, or you'll be late for your first class. Just remember, I'm here and I love you so much! You can talk to me about anything. Have a great day!"
I knew I couldn't argue with her anymore. "Love you too, Mom." She's a great mom, but that didn't make me any more enthusiastic to start this day.
I hopped out of her minivan and made my way into the most terrifying building I had ever seen.
"Hello, you must be Husk!" an obnoxious, over-friendly lady from the office said.
"Yeah, I'm Husk."
"It's very nice to meet you! My name is Mrs. McCoy." She held out her hand for me to shake, but I just looked at her. She was too annoying for me to shake her hand. She seemed uncomfortable at the fact I ignored her handshake, and she cleared her throat as she put her hand down. "Well, let me show you to your first hour."
We walked out of the office and took a right down the hallway. I stared at the blue strip of tiles on the wall, gently running my fingers along them. I didn't care how dirty they were. The bumps felt nice and comforting. I remember always doing that at my old school to keep my anger levels down. It didn't work all that well, but it was still comforting.
"Okay, here we are!" Mrs. McCoy said, leading me into a room. The walls were lined with middle-grade books and sweaty kids filled the desks. It was just like I was back in my old school. Are there any different middle schools? "This is your homeroom. Most people here are working on homework, but you don't have any yet, so try and make friends, mmkay, hon?"
Making friends. No, that's stupid. If I began getting involved in a social life, things would take a bad turn, just as they did at my old school. I didn't want that, but I also needed to start making a good impression on the adults here, so I said, "Okay, that sounds good. Where should I sit?"
"You'll sit right next to this sweetheart, Anthony. Alright, well I have some work to get done, so I'll leave you to it. Good luck Husk, and you know where I am if you need me!" With that, Mrs. McCoy left the room for me to analyze this kid I'd be sitting next to.
Anthony had pale skin with brown freckles running down his back, which was slightly exposed by his feminine shirt that hung off his shoulders. He had blond, swoopy hair and was intently focused on his laptop.
