Birds chirped as they flitted and fluttered around the sky, their songs filling the air of Heaven. The sun was shining brightly in the golden sky and all was joyful and peaceful. Everything, that is, except for a certain dining room where two seraphim were fighting- er, discussing- whether or not souls should be redeemed for about the millionth time.

"What even happens to them once we kill those poor souls?"  Emily demanded, almost crying as she yelled.

"That depends. Sometimes, they are reborn," Sera responded, exhausted from the constant fighting.

"Wait, so you're telling me that these awful souls that deserve to die are getting another chance at life? That's so unfair!" Since Emily had gotten to Heaven, she had longed to feel the beautiful sensation of life again. She missed so much about Earth, from her home to rivers to mountains and everything in between.

"That's just the way it works. When they get back to Earth, they don't remember anything, and a lot of times their souls go through changes and can be better."

"So you're telling me that souls who are dead can't change, but they can when they're on Earth?"

"No, I just- anyways, they can be sent back to Hell or Heaven, but they have to re-enter-"

"That doesn't fix the overpopulation at all! They leave for a while and then come back? Aside from the torture, killing them does nothing!"

"And sometimes they disintegrate," Sera added. Although she loved her fellow seraphim, Sera was beginning to become annoyed by Emily's overreactions and endless questioning.

"They disintegrate?"

"Yup, then they're gone forever. They cease to exist."

"That's AWFUL!" Emily slammed her fist into the table. "I can't believe you'd ever do that! Why won't you even consider redemption?"

"Because that's not how it works! We're not just going to re-sort the souls who have already found a home in the afterlife they deserve. Souls get their chance to change when they're alive, but once they're dead, that's it. End of story."

"Then how did Vaggie fall? She changed, didn't she?"

Sera paused for a moment, recalling Vaggie. She had worked alongside Adam, was the founder of extermination, and worked in the same position that Lute currently worked in. "She founded the extermination. as you know. On one of the trips to Hell, she didn't do her job correctly. She spared some demons but was caught. That's how she was kicked out of Heaven."

"You're telling me that fell because she didn't kill?" Emily paused, astounded. "What kind of unjust system are we running?"

"She wasn't doing her job because she put too much emotion into it. It's unprofessional and it could be dangerous. What if those hostile demons attacked?"

"I thought angels couldn't be killed."

"Actually, that's not true."

Emily's jaw dropped, and her voice grew quiet."Sera, what do you mean?"

"During the latest extermination, one of the demons killed an angel. We can be killed if attacked by angelic weapons."

Emily's eyes widened. "Aren't they down there now for extermination?"

"Yes."

"That means they could die! Sera, we're putting our people in danger!"

"It's alright. The secret isn't widely known around Hell yet. We're still safe."
