"This isn't going to be good." These words brought Vox back to his days at the Vee's tower. He remembered all the times Velvette had called him to consult his little boy-toy, but somehow they were even more terrifying coming out of his ex.
It had been about 20 years since they broke up, and even after all this time, Vox didn't understand what he had done wrong in their relationship. It was before Valentino was in his life, so Vox was a loyal partner. He never got on Alastor's bad side, for he communicated well and showed him all the love and affection he could ever want. However, no matter how good of a boyfriend Vox was, Alastor didn't seem interested, and Vox could never understand why.
At the beginning of their relationship, he was a decent partner. Alastor was a good cook and good company. The only problem Vox had with him was that he didn't make the first move. Ever.
Vox had asked Al out. Vox initiated their first kiss- and every kiss after that, for that matter. Vox said 'I love you' first. Every time their relationship progressed, it was initiated by Vox.
Frankly, Vox didn't mind all of this. After all, making first moves was his thing! It just bothered him that there was a chance Al wasn't even interested, and that he only accepted Vox's requests to progress their relationship because he didn't know how to reject him.
However, Vox didn't pay much attention to this worry. After all, his mind liked to make things up! That's what minds do: make things up. It just bothered him a bit.
As time went by, Alastor was changing. He grew more and more distant as his powers grew. It had gotten to the point where they only had a real conversation once a week, and they lived with each other! The rare conversations they had weren't even good, as Alastor had become dry to talk to.
If the distance between the two of them wasn't enough, Vox also noticed more powerful demons disappearing left and right. He knew his boyfriend had a radio show, but grew suspicious when it began broadcasting screams. Every time another demon disappeared, another voice was heard screaming on Alastor's radio show.
Vox wasn't just annoyed at the distance between them; he was scared of who Alastor had become.
One day, they finally had a true conversation- the first in months.
"Vox, dearest, will you come here? I have something to talk to you about," Alastor called from their living room.
"What's up?" Vox asked when he entered the room.
"We're done. I am ending this relationship. Goodbye, Vox. I will pack up and leave today."
"Wait. WHAT!?" Vox exclaimed.
"You heard me just fine, I believe. We're done. Is that not clear?"
Vox didn't know how to respond. "Okay, wait- can we talk through this? Why are you breaking up with me?"
"Why do you need to know?"
Luckily, Vox was prepared for this type of situation. He understood that Alastor didn't have to give him reasons for the breakup and that was okay, but Vox knew what he needed to say to get the information out of him nonetheless. "I want to know so that I can improve myself in future relationships," he explained.
"Very well then." Alastor paused for a moment, taking a sip of his coffee from his Oh, Deer! mug. "Let me put it simply: you have changed too much. You're not at all the person who I began dating."
"What the-" Vox was bamboozled. "I'm the one that has changed too much? Alastor, are you FUCKING KIDDING ME!?
"Hmm... No, I don't believe I am. You have become so technologically advanced and haven't stayed true to your original self. You're not you, you're some combination of all the most recent trends put into some tacky blue box. It's stupid. Also, I began dating a man who had decent power, but that grew a lot. I dare to say you've almost reached overlord status. I don't like that, Vox."
