Chapter Ten
When Auryn finds herself hurling though a portal, her first thought is usually oh shit. But it had been a while since she was called to work so this time she was relieved. The Priestesses gave her a far too long leave of absence to spend with her family after what happened with her Uncle. She was ready months ago to come back to work, and they hadn't let her.
Finally, they were ready to send her on a mission.
Auryn took in a deep breath when she landed. Immediately she started to cough, wherever she was had only smoke for air. She looked around, it was a back alley she had landed in. Slowly, trying to not cough too much, she made her way out towards where all the lights were.
Out on the street, it was easier to breath. There were neon lights on every building, showing the outlines and the signs. It was almost too bright after being in the dark alley.
"Okay?" Auryn muttered to herself and started walking.
She noticed immediately that she was the odd one out with her clothing. Everyone looked like they belonged in the hunger games. There was a skirt bade out of peacock feathers, a dress that lit up like the mood, and a suit that looked knitted with glitter. Auryn was only in black leggings and a t-shirt with a rock band on it.
She sighed and tried to stay out of the way of everyone walking. It was impossible to blend into the shadows because they didn't exist.
Eventually she paused. There was a gut feeling that made her stop and turn to one of the buildings. It looked like a diner, complete with the old booths and girls in roller blades. She felt her feet moving inside before her brain had even made a choice to go in. She walked right past the front desk and towards a table that was in the back.
What was going on?
Auryn stopped in front of a table with three guys. Her eyes locked on one of them. He looked scary, if that was even a thing. He had jet black hair that was shaved close to his scalp and black eyes that were reading Auryn like he already knew everything about her. He was tan and muscular and had some stubble on his jaw.
Auryn didn't have an interest to look at the other guys at the table, but they spoke and caught her attention.
"That's weird, this one is dressed different." Auryn looked at the guy who spoke and he had long curly brown hair. He looked like he caused trouble.
Auryn then looked down at herself and back up to him. She wanted to make a remark about how she wasn't the one dressed like and art piece, but she realized these guys were all in jeans and t-shirts. Why was she dressed weird if they were in similar clothing?
The third guy sighed, he had shaggy blonde hair, "are you picking this one or not?"
The first guy shrugged, and tried to look like he didn't care. "I'll figure that out." He got up from the booth and held out his hand to Auryn. She stared at it for a second before she felt a tug and her hand was resting in his.
She looked down at their hands as if she couldn't believe it moved.
He pulled her towards the back of the restaurant and she followed like some kind of robot. What was going on? Why was this happening?
In the back, they stopped in the office and he let go of her hand to shut the door.
He looked over her face, "you are not freaking out?"
Auryn raised an eyebrow, "over the fact that you are controlling my body right now?"
He blinked, "you're aware?"
"Of course I'm aware, I'm not stupid."
He looked taken aback at that. "I didn't think you were stupid. Just most people blank out when they are being pulled."
