Chapter Twelve

It wasn't until the middle of the week that Kienna returned to the school. She was wrapped up and had the school nurse checking up on her every hour. She didn't even bother to look in Auryn's direction, but Ethan liked to glare. Anna glared back since Auryn was too numb to do anything.

By Friday, Brandt and Levi still had not returned. Auryn was in a bad place.

Anna forced her to come outside after her tutoring session. It was the last place Auryn wanted to be after last week. But she followed Anna because she had nothing better to do. She was just going to go back to her room to pretend she cared about anything at all.

Anna made her sit on the bleachers, and she went off to play with the rest of the humans. It seemed no werewolves wanted to be outside with Auryn after what happened. She did note that they were giving her weird looks all week, but she thought it was because of Kienna's injury and Brandt ghosting her. Maybe they didn't even notice that Brandt was missing, or maybe everyone but her has seen him and he was just avoiding Auryn on purpose.

That thought made her even more sad.

Auryn tried to read while Anna and the others played their game, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She sat with the book on her lap, staring off into space.

Eventually, Anna came to sit with her.

She cleared her throat, making Anna turn to look at her, "you guys had that bond that werewolves get, didn't you?"

Auryn nodded her head slightly, she couldn't bring herself to voice anything she wanted to say. It was going to get caught in her throat or she was going talk and talk until her whole life story was out and she didn't want to burden anyone else with that.

Anna grabbed her hand and held on tightly, and the two of them sat like that for a long time.

It helped Auryn a lot, just to know that Anna was there for her when she was ready. It made her think of Kira back home, who she knew wasn't actually back home but also hiding somewhere in the universe, hopefully safe.

One day she would see her friends again, and maybe one day she could figure Brandt out.

As soon as she thought about that, he appeared across the field. Levi in tow. Auryn and Anna both tensed and Anna gripped her hand tighter. Auryn wanted to squeeze Anna, but that was not a good idea so she gripped the bleachers seat with her free hand instead.

Brandt walked straight towards Auryn, no hesitation. He looked serious and on a mission and it took everything Auryn to not move. She was so relived to see him again, she wanted to jump in for a hug just to know that she wasn't imagining this. She had imagined him walking into math class all week and knocking on her door so much she started to hear things.

The other side of her wanted to punch him, how dare he judge he. He has known her for what? Three weeks! She knew they liked each other but it wasn't in her place to go around spouting out her families problems or anything about her job. It was a secret she even hid from her own twin, so why would she tell him.

There was a lot going on in her thoughts.

Brandt climbed up the bleachers to where she was sitting and stopped in the row of seats bellow hers. Levi stayed on the ground, he looked annoyed.

"We need to talk, alone." Brandt said quietly. Auryn looked at Anna and she nodded before hurrying away.

Brandt didn't make any more to come closer, and Anna hid behind Levi who slowly led her away.

Auryn watched Brandt, she did not want to bend first. He was the one who ran away and stayed away for a whole week. A whole week!

The more Auryn thought about it, the more she was mad.
