Chapter Forty-Two

Auryn was nervous, she had been summoned for an important family meeting at the palace. This was surely about her and it was going to be the end of her involvement with her family. They were going to banish her or something.

Her stomach turned with all of the possibilities.

Her mother could be calling the family meeting for the craziest of reasons, if it was even her calling the meeting. Maybe someone else wanted to call out Auryn in front of her mother and get her in trouble.

The speculation was turning her insides and she just needed to get this over and done with so she can deal with the consequences.

When Auryn got to the palace, one of the palace staff was waiting for her. She asked for "Princess Auryn" to follow her. Auryn wanted to throw up, she was a Priestess first then a Princess after and she could not understand why people didn't understand that.

But she followed, through the palace and up to a receiving room. Inside Nyota was already waiting with a few other people. Most of them that Auryn recognized, but she knew she was related to all of them.

Nyota patted the spot on the couch next to her and Auryn sat there. Everyone was quiet and nervous, it made Auryn's worries even worse. They were all just sitting and looking at each other like they were the guilty party in the room.

"Do you know why we're here," Nyota whispered.

Auryn shook her head, "I don't even know who summoned us."

"Me neither," Nyota whispered back.

They sat together in silence for a few minutes longer, then the rest of their family slowly filled it. Including their parents, but not including their younger sister. Auryn watched as her father smiled and waved at them, but went to go sit with their mother who didn't even glance at them.

Nyota gave Auryn a look of annoyance.

Small talk started after that, small buzzing around the room. It lasted a few minutes until their Uncle came into the room. Uncle Adan walked in with a loud voice to announce his presence and made everyone jump in their seats. Uncle Adan was not a direct Uncle to Auryn and Nyota, his father was brother to their Grandmother Domino. Domino was Queen before their mother, and since he is first cousins with Auryn and Nyota's mother, he has always felt the need to compete for attention within the family.

"Good morning family! Thank you all for coming!"

Auryn felt Nyota's sigh next to her. She didn't remember Uncle Adan much because he didn't come around much when Auryn still lived with her parents. According to Nyota, he came around a lot more in the last few months now that they announced Nyota's coronation as Queen. She did not like his visits.

"Yes, I was the one who summoned all of you!" He grinned and took a stance in the middle of the room. Everyone looked at each other nervously. "Sorry for being so secretive, but I needed all of you to come."

Auryn glanced around and she saw most of her family grew annoyed. She had heard of him doing this a lot when him and her mother were children which ended up being a lot of calling wolf. The whole family was never impressed, so they stopped coming to his family meetings until he stopped calling for them.

Uncle Adan clasped his hands together and grinned, "I have formed an alliance with a powerful family in Andcra. This will be a great way for our family to gain more power and influence in Andcra and we will finally be able to control more than just our royal court!"

Auryn blinked in confusion, then looked at her sister who was glaring at their Uncle. Why would they want power and influence in Andcra? They were good friends with the royal family already. Mica, Nolan, and Vanessa were all close friends of Auryn, Nyota, and Corvina. What more could he want?

No one asked the questions that Auryn could feel circulating the room through all of their minds. So Uncle Adan continued, "Nyota is now betrothed to Rusty Ernesh! His father and I have it all worked out, contract signed and everything!"

Their mother and father stood up and started shouting immediately. As soon as everyone saw their protests, the rest of the family joined.

The whole room was against Uncle Adan.

Auryn didn't move, and she looked over at Nyota who was pale with fear. Auryn needed to do something.

Auryn stood and pushed the word, "silence" to the whole room through the voice. She felt the power go out to everyone and they all turned to look at her with shock. It was not common knowledge that she had the voice, everyone assumed that Nyota had it since she was chosen to be Queen and because she had the portals.

Auryn's mother glared at her, she was the only one who would be able to speak through this because she was currently Queen but for some reason she listened to Auryn's command.

Auryn looked at her Uncle, "are you stupid? You have no control over Nyota and her life decisions, let alone the power to decide who she marries. Not even her parents can make that decision, there are laws against it."

Auryn watched as his face went red with the strain of trying to speak, but he could only gesture around like he was playing a shitty game of charades.

"Stop moving," Auryn pushed at him and then looked at her mother, "either you decide a punishment or I will."

Her mother thought for a moment then spoke, "actually, I'd love to see what you have in mind."

Auryn felt the weight of that responsibility immediately.

She turned to Nyota who was looking at her with shock then turned back to her Uncle.

"I Princess Auryn of Crayra, Priestess of Other Realm, hereby banish you Uncle Adan from this family. You may never step onto another piece of property owned the royal family and extended members and you may never speak to any of them again."

Auryn used the voice in this proclamation, causing it to take effect immediately.

"Be gone," she finished and Uncle Adan turned to leave the palace without uttering another word.

Auryn said "speak" to the rest of the room and there was a collective sigh. They all looked at each other like they were nervous. So many people now knew that Nyota didn't have all the Queen powers, and she was nervous as to how they would take it.

Auryn turned to Nyota, "are you alright?"

Nyota shuttered, "I can't believe he thought I'd marry Rusty Ernesh."

Their mother walked over, "you both should watch your backs, Rusty's father is a real piece of work. He's had it out for royals ever since Nolan's father banished his wife. She was sister to Nolan's mother and tried to kill her for her crown."

They both looked at their mother with surprise, neither of them had heard that story. Nolan and Mica never talk about their extended family. Auryn supposed she wouldn't if their aunt tried to kill their mother. Auryn also supposed she would not tell them about their Uncle trying to marry off Nyota either. Some things just weren't talked about.
