Chapter Sixteen
The walk from the school field to the combat field was quite a distance. Auryn did not know what she expected, but a full obstacle course was not it. Complete with a mud pit, a climbing wall, and even swinging bags probably meant to hit people. Or at least knock them off their feet.
Auryn was so surprised, Levi made a cheering gesture and grinned at her. "Look at you, training to join us in the tournament!"
Brandt growled at him, "stop advertising it."
The teacher frowned at them all and then bellowed out, "why is the human here?"
Brandt glared at him and then through his teeth said the thing that he was struggling to accept. "Auryn is training for the tournament."
The teacher laughed, and laughed, like it was the funniest thing he had ever heard. The three of them stood their awkwardly and the rest of the class watched on with amused expressions. Like they didn't want to laugh out of fear of Brandt but they also thought it was hilarious.
Auryn rolled her eyes, and Levi looked at her nervously. "Are you sure about this?"
"Why does everyone's doubt have to be so aggressive?" She said angrily and the teacher finally stopped laughing.
"Humans are breakable weaklings," he pointed out. "You will not be able to finish this course without dying."
Auryn sighed, "oh yes, I was a breakable weakling last week. It's the reason why I'm the one with the shattered collar bone, correct?"
Everyone stopped and looked around awkwardly. They forgot awfully quickly about what happened to Kienna. The teacher was not impressed, however. "Yeah right, most of your witnesses were humans. I do not believe anything until I see it. If you are so dead set on embarrassing yourself, you will do the obstacle course first."
Auryn frowned and glared at him, "fine."
"Wait no," Brandt put his hand in front of her. "I take it back, I don't like this."
Auryn smiled at him softly, "I promise if I'm about to die I will scream for help."
Brandt did not like that. Auryn pushed his hand out of the way and took a step forward.
The teacher grinned like this was going to be the best thing he's seen in a long time. Auryn walked up to where he gestured as the start of the course. It was a wall made of stone with ropes attached to it that looked like you needed to climb up. The teacher grinned, "I won't time you, I just want to see if you can finish it."
That made Auryn laugh, "alright, if you say so."
She took a deep breath and rubbed her hands together, ready to start.
Auryn grabbed a rope in each hand and heard some snickers, then she jumped and propelled herself upward by pulling the ropes. She went over the wall, and then let go of the ropes. Her body went over the wall and she landed on the other side. Noting the mud pit with the barbed wire, she assumed she is supposed to crawl under it. She had no intention of doing that. Instead she aimed for the wood that was holding up the wire and she jumped onto the first post, landing on the ball of her foot.
She jumped to the next and then the next, never touching the mud or the wire, only the wooden posts. Auryn then landed on the ground, grinning from ear to ear. this course was easy as pie.
There were no more noises from the peanut gallery.
The next obstacle was the swinging bags, Auryn wasted no time in running at them, she dodged and spun with finesse like this was easy because for her it was. When she emerged out the other side, there was a climbing jungle-gym. She jumped up the first ten feet and latched on to the first bar, then propelled herself onto the next one where she landed on her feet. Auryn ran on the bar and then launched herself at towards the ground and the end finish line.
