Chapter Seventeen

Auryn woke up to go to school on Monday morning, but instead found Anna knocking on her door. She stumbled over to the door and Anna looked alarmed, which made Auryn wake up faster.

"We need to get dressed quickly and meet in the back field."

Auryn blinked, "why?"

Brandt appeared behind Auryn, hovering over her head. She forgot that he was in there and smiled up at him. "What's going on?" He asked Anna.

"The parents are here," Anna whispered, looking around nervously. "Levi's mom will meet us in ten minutes."

Brandt stiffened, "shit."

He pulled Auryn back into her room and slammed the door shut. She looked at him in questioning. He ran his hand through his hair and Auryn was amazed at how stressed he looked. Usually he was broody, this was new.

"You need to dress in something nice, as to not be embarrassing, but not too nice, so that you don't look like you think you're important."

Auryn raised an eyebrow, "wow that's not specific at all."

Brandt frowned at her, "this is serious. All of the werewolves parents are here. So you need to sneak out the back with the rest of the humans."

Auryn crossed her arms over her chest, "why?" That was not fair at all.

"Because my dad is here and so is Levi's."

"So I can meet your parents then? Perfect."

"No!" He snapped then took a deep breath, "if my dad finds out about you in a crowd of the other parents, he will kill you. No humans, that's his rule. Levi's dad might be more understanding but in this group, its too dangerous. Please just trust me on this. Go with Levi's mom, she is human and she takes everyone shopping in town."

Auryn did not like that, so she tried a different approach and pouted. "Please!" 

Brandt pulled her in for a hug, "how about you go with Anna to protect her? She most definitely will be killed by my father if she is not protected."

Auryn grumbled, "I can spot your tactic's miles away now."

That made Brandt give a small laugh but she promised to go with Anna and Levi's mom. Brandt then helped her pick out an outfit. It ended up being a black skirt and a dark purple button-up top. She added some gold jewelry and some cute flats.

When she was ready, Brandt made sure she was safe with Anna before running off. Anna pulled Auryn out a back door and towards the gym field. It was still early and the air was a little colder than usual. Auryn cursed for not grabbing a jacket.

Everyone else was already there, and a woman who had the same nose and chin as Levi. It was kind of weird for Auryn to see.

She smiled at Auryn as they approached, "ah you must be the new girl, Auryn? Levi has told me a lot about you!"

Auryn cringed, "oh that's not good."

She laughed lightly, "it's perfect. He came to me for advice for you and Brandt. Because I am a human with a bond to a werewolf as well. So, I know from experience."

Auryn knew suddenly why Brandt and Levi were gone so long. she still didn't like it, that week sucked for her and she was still nervous of Brandt walking away again. But now she knew where they had gone - to the closest expert they could find. It made sense, and it would make even more sense if Auryn didn't have any magic.

"Now!" Levi's mom said excitedly, "let's go on our field trip!"

There was a van waiting off to the side for them and all of the teens piled in like this was normal. Auryn felt uneasy, like she was doing something she wasn't supposed to be. Sneaking around made her feel like Priestess Grace was watching and that made her uncomfortable.
