Much to Athena's surprise, Lisa Marie was not there; causing her minor panic to subside.
"See?" Michael asked pointedly, "I told you."
"Morning, boss," Bill said as they walked by him.
"Morning, Bill," Michael said, "Make sure Lisa Marie doesn't come here. She's been served divorce papers and is not welcome here anymore," he added before ushering Athena upstairs to his bedroom, where he closed the door and locked it just to make sure they were safe from any unwanted intrusions.
"I'm just gonna stand here," Athena said awkwardly as she looked around the room.
Michael sat on the bed, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, looking straight at her, "Why are you so nervous?"
Athena sighed, rubbing the back of her neck, "I don't know, Michael—we shouldn't be here, we could get caught."
Michael scoffed, "Lisa Marie has been served divorce papers; she won't be returning here anymore. You're safe," he reassured her.
Athena gave him a detailed look behind his eyes, searching for any sign of truth or deceit, and then she sighed, "Okay, fine—I'm nervous because I'm attracted to you. I'm terrified of the consequences of feelings like this, especially since Lisa—"
"Is no longer staying here," Michael cut her off, "And won't be returning. Our scenarios are moot."
Athena looked again around the room, trying to find a distraction, "Your room is so massive," she finally blurted out, "How do you even dust those high shelves?"
Michael laughed, "I don't, my housekeeper Adrian does. But you just gotta trust her, she's been with me for years."
"I guess that makes sense," Athena shrugged, muttering, "Liam and I don't have a maid. I do the cleaning too."
"Come here," Michael said, patting his lap.
"I don't want to go on your bed," Athena said, backing up slightly.
"Why not?" Michael asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because Lisa Marie has slept probably right there," Athena defended, merely pointing to a random side of the bed, "I just—I don't know, it's weird. It's her bed too, technically."
"I got rid of everything she ever touched, sat on, or slept on," Michael smiled, "Everything is new."
Athena raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical as her eyes wandered the room as if looking for evidence of a woman.
Michael chuckled, shaking his head, "I swear, Athena. Lisa Marie will never come back here again. Take my word for it."
"Fine," Athena relented, moving to sit on the edge of the bed, only to be surprised as Michael grabbed her by the waist and pulled her onto his lap, his arms wrapping tightly around her body.
