To all my black readers,

We are slowly getting into the part with the Diane Sawyer Interview and I want to make sure I write this chapter right. When it gets to the part about them talking about Michael's skin tone, I have Athena going on a whole-ass rant about how she's mad about the media blowing it out of proportion!

Let's just say I have Diane asking, much like she did in the original interview, a lot of say....offensive questions. Needless to say, I thought she was very pushy and self-centered and I've heard a lot of people thought the same.

I don't want anything Athena says in her rant to sound bad. And I mean 'bad' as in racist.

I am not a racist, nor do I support people who are. I was raised not to see color, only to see heart.

I believe love comes in all forms. I believe that we all have a heartbeat, we all bleed the same color, we all have feelingsso I don't see why people feel the need to have predetermined prejudices against each other.

I'm writing this and asking you for your personal experience because Michael was Black; there are certain things you guys do that Italians, Latinos, and Whites do not do.

Such as your hairI assume Michael wore weaves or something, right? His hair changed so often and so rapidly that it's confusing if it's his natural hair or if it's wigs! So like.....hair careare there certain products you have to use? Or that Michael would have had to use? And I also know that Michael had that Pepsi fire accident and burned his scalp, so that's another thing I saw about people saying he wore wigs and weaves and all this other stuff.

I just want to get the facts.

So I'm asking because I know your hair is different than mine.

And also, are there certain things I should avoid having my characters say?

Again, I am not a racist, nor am I trying to sound offensive. And I don't want my characters to sound the opposite of what I am trying to put out. I just don't know any information about these topics, only what I've read online. And as we all know, you can't always trust what you read online.

Feel free to comment as long of a comment as you want. I promise, I will read every last word. If I'm wrong about something, please, please, PLEASE CORRECT ME! I want to learn about your culture and lives and techniques so I make things as accurate as possible.

Love,
Dessa ❤️❤️❤️🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
