The next morning, Athena woke up before Michael and decided to go to the animal sanctuary—under the guise of it being so Buddy the Black Lab could see Bubbles the Chimp, but it was really because these two animals always helped her anxieties.

Meanwhile, inside the house Michael stirred awake from his peaceful slumber, not feeling Athena's body heat radiating his direction from next to him anymore.

He reached over, trying to feel for her body, only to feel the cold fabric of the sheets—something that told him she had been out of bed for a while.

He rubbed his eyes, sitting up and glancing around the room, only to find it empty and devoid of his wife's presence. Frowning slightly, he grabbed his phone from the bedside table and checked the time, realizing that Athena must have woken up early.

As he got out of bed and stretched, a sense of unease crept over him. He made his way downstairs, calling out for Athena as he descended. The house felt unusually quiet, the absence of her usual humming or laughter leaving an eerie echo in the air.

Michael's brows furrowed as he entered the kitchen to find it empty. Concern gnawed at him as he headed out into the garden, scanning the familiar pathways for any sign of her. A ripple of panic coursed through him as he couldn't see her anywhere.

Just as Michael prepared to search the rest of the property, a faint sound caught his attention. It was a melody—a soft, gentle tune that carried through the morning air. He knew that sound anywhere. It was Athena's angelic singing voice.

The melody drew him towards the animal sanctuary, where he found Athena sitting on a bench, her eyes closed in concentration as she sang to Buddy and Bubbles. The tranquil atmosphere surrounded her, her voice blending harmoniously with the rustling leaves and chirping birds.

Michael stood back, mesmerized by the beauty of the moment. He watched as Athena's eyes opened slowly, a serene smile spreading across her face when she noticed him standing there. She patted the spot next to her on the bench, wordlessly inviting him to join her.

As he sat beside her, the warmth of the morning sun enveloped them. Athena's hand found his, interlacing their fingers with a comforting familiarity. They sat in comfortable silence for a while, soaking in the peacefulness of the sanctuary.

Finally, Michael broke the quietude, his voice soft yet filled with concern, "Why did you leave without waking me, baby?"

Athena turned to him, her eyes reflecting an array of emotions, "You deserve your rest, Mikey. Who am I to disturb you?"

"My wife," Michael said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, "It's not about rest, Athena," he added gently, his eyes searching hers for any hint of what she might be feeling, "I want to be there for you, especially during these difficult times," He squeezed her hand, a silent gesture of his unwavering support.
