The next morning, Athena woke up a couple hours before Michael and darted out of the house—she was willing to do whatever it took to avoid confrontation with Michael.

She didn't want to fight, she didn't want him to see her sunburnt skin, and she especially didn't want him to see the tears that threatened to fall at the thought of losing him.

"Athena?" Michael called as he walked through the house, "Babe! Where the heck did you go?!"

"She's gone for the day, boss," Javon said, "She said she's helping your sister Janet choregraph her next music video."

Michael was confused and hurt by Athena's sudden disappearance. He knew something was off, but he didn't know what it was. He sighed, running his fingers through his hair. He had a feeling that something was going on with Athena, and he didn't like it.

He decided to call Janet to see if she knew anything about Athena's whereabouts—not that he thought Javon was lying, but he had to make sure. When she answered, Michael tried to keep his voice from giving away his apprehension.

"Hi, Janet, it's Michael. I was just wondering if you knew where Athena was? She left suddenly this morning and didn't tell us where she was going."

Janet hesitated for a moment, sounding like she was gulping down a drink, "Yeah, we're at a dance studio in LA. She's helping me choreograph my next video."

"Oh, okay. Thanks for telling me," Michael sighed in relief, "Tell her to come home as soon as she can. I need to talk to her."

"Is everything okay with you two?" Janet asked in concern.

"Yeah, just need to talk to her about a song," Michael replied, lying smoothly. He didn't want to reveal his business with Athena to too many people.

"Ah," Janet said in understanding, "I'll tell her. Bye, Mike."

Michael hung up the phone and went into his home recording studio at Neverland. He worked for hours, his mind occupied with Athena as he tried to focus on his music.

11:00 PM

Athena, once again, snuck into the house, thankful that she managed not to run into Michael on the way inside. She sighed in relief as she pulled her jacket off—her skin feeling like it was on fire as she faceplanted the bed.

Little did she know, Michael was on his way back up to the main house when he got the text from Bill telling him that Athena was home.

"Athena...?" Michael whispered softly, walking towards the bedroom. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. As he opened the door, he found her sprawled out on the bed, her skin red and she slightly rubbed away some of the itch.

Michael's heart ached at the sight of her. He knew better than anyone how much pain she was in.

"Athena!" he exclaimed, "What the hell happened?!"
