Louis sat with Donna in her cell , her head on his lap as she laid on her side on the heated blanket cushioned with sheets .

He had a lump in his throat as he petted her gently to soothe her ; when Mint gave birth she had Apollo with her . It made him sad that Chess wasn't there for Donna .

He looked up when the cell door opened , Harry walked in with Bobby , their vet . He gave the two a small smile , "Hey ."

"Hey baby ." Harry kneeled next to him and cupped the back of his head , bringing him closer to kiss his forehead , "How are you both ?"

"Donna is good , she's having contractions but they're still far apart , so she has a bit more time before she's ready to birth ." Louis said , watching as Bobby started checking on Donna .

"And you ?" Harry asked .

Louis bit his lower lip to stop himself from tearing up , but when he looked at Harry he couldn't help his eyes filling with tears .

"I w-wish he was here ." He said in a whisper and sniffled .

Harry sat on the floor next to Louis and tucked him into his side , squeezing at his shoulders before dropping his arm to rest around his waist .

Louis wiped at his eyes and sniffled again , petting Donna when she whined at the contractions .

"She's almost ready , I think in the next thirty minutes she'll begin birthing ." Bobby said , Louis nodded and leaned his head on Harry's shoulder .

Liam walked into the cell and gave Louis a smile , he kneeled down in front of him and rubbed his leg to comfot him , "She'll be okay . She's got us ."

Louis gave him a teary smile and nodded , wiping his eyes again .

"Want to go to the lounge to grab a snack ? Maybe something to drink ?" Harry asked quietly , Louis shook his head , "I want to stay here until she starts birthing ."

"Okay ." Harry kissed his temple . "Have you thought of names yet ?"

Louis nodded . "I have a few in mind ."

"Want to tell me the names ?"

Louis smiled , "I'll have to wait for the pups , to see which is a male and which is a female ."

Louis left the room before Donna started birthing ; he couldn't handle the blood . Liam and Bobby took care of the birthing , Harry stayed with Louis .

The rest of the dogs were taken outside , Harry sat with Louis at the wooden table with Odin next to them , while the rest of the dogs roamed around and played .

"We're going to need more space for the pups , they're growing so fast ." Louis said . "Mint's pups are already so big ."

"They're two years old already , baby ." Harry smiled , "They were already big at six months old ."

"My pups are getting older and I don't like it ." Louis pouted a bit , then turned to Odin , "Even this guy , he's six already ." He petted Odin . "It really scares me , to be honest ."

"Nobody lives forever , I'm afraid ." Harry pulled Louis into his side for a hug .

"Except for you , mister 'i died three times and there might be a fourth one' ." Louis said with a playful eye roll , smiling when he made Harry laugh a bit .

Liam stepped outside , Louis' heart skipped a beat as he stood up from his seat , Harry following .

"How is she ? Are the pups okay ?" Louis walked over to Liam quickly .

"Donna had her five pups , she's doing well , the pups are doing well ." Liam assured him as they walked into the building , "We cleaned everything up if you want to go see them ."

Louis ran past him and to Donna's cell , eyes watering at the sight of the five puppies laying lined up at her belly . He let out a soft sob and covered his face , trying to control his tears before he walked into her cell .

Harry joined him and wrapped him in a hug , he kissed his shoulder and his head to comfort him ; it hurt him every single time Louis cried .

Louis calmed down and pulled his face out of Harry's chest , he dried his eyes and cheeks and went into Donna's cell . He gave the tired dog a smile , "Hi pup ." He sat on his knees next to her and leaned down to kiss her head .

Harry watched from the entrace , giving Louis his time with Donna before he joined in .

Bobby , the vet , made a stop at the cell and smiled at the couple sitting next to Donna . "Donna is doing perfect , the puppies too ." He assured them , "She had three males and two females . They're healthy , stats were taken . I'll stick around for longer to keep an eye on them ."

Louis nodded , "Thank you ."

Harry took Louis' hand and laced their fingers together . "Shall we reveal their names now ?"

Louis smiled , "I know what I want their names to be ."

"Tell me ."

"Cooper , Hatchie , Eevie , Sunny and Suki ." Louis took a pause . "Chess' initials ."

Harry pressed a kiss to his temple . "Lovely names ."

Louis curled up to Harry's side , "I miss him a lot ."

"I know . I miss him too ." Harry said quietly . "He's watching us now , making sure we're being good to Donna and his pups ."

Louis smiled a bit , "He would've been such a good dad ."

"He would've taught them how to parkour off trees and walls ." Harry added , smiling when he made Louis laugh a bit .

"That's his legacy , isn't it ?" Louis looked up at Harry with a small smile . "Now his pups must learn that too ."
