RITVIK ANAND'S POV:
September 14th, 2013It was one of those days where everything seemed to be going smoothly. I walked into the Daily Bugle, a folder of photos in hand, and made my way to Jameson's office. The familiar hustle and bustle of the newsroom buzzed around me, reporters typing away, phones ringing incessantly. I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as I handed over the latest shots of the Spectral Spider to Jameson. He barely looked at me, grumbling his usual mix of skepticism and grudging approval.
"These better be good, Anand." he barked, rifling through the photos. "I don't have time for mediocre work."
I simply nodded, used to his bluster by now. "I think you'll find them more than adequate, Mr. Jameson."
After a brief, tense silence, he gave a grunt that might have been approval. "Fine. Get out of here. I've got a paper to run."
I turned on my heel, relieved to be out of his office, and headed towards the exit. That's when I saw Betty. She was standing by her desk, organizing some papers. Her face lit up when she saw me, and I couldn't help but smile back.
"Ritvik! I was hoping to catch you before you left." she said, her eyes sparkling.
"Hey, Betty. I was actually going to come find you." I replied. "How about we grab some coffee later? Maybe catch a movie?"
Her smile widened. "I'd love that. How about tonight? There's that new thriller playing at the cinema."
"Perfect. I'll pick you up at seven."
Just as we made our plans, the building shook with a sudden, violent impact. The sound of crashing glass and panicked screams filled the air. My spider-sense flared up, sending a jolt of adrenaline through me.
"Ritvik, what's happening?" Betty asked, her voice trembling with fear.
I turned to see Scorpion, crashing through the front of the building, his eyes locked onto Jameson. He was here to finish what he started. People were scattering in all directions, and I knew I had to act fast.
"Betty, we need to get you somewhere safe." I said, grabbing her hand. "Come on!"
I pulled her towards a supply closet, my mind racing. I couldn't leave her out here, but I also couldn't fight Scorpion without revealing my secret. I had to make a choice, and fast.
We ducked into the closet, and I closed the door behind us. Betty looked at me, her eyes wide with confusion and fear. "Ritvik, what's going on?"
Taking a deep breath, I made the hardest decision of my life. "Betty, I need you to trust me. There's something I need to show you, something I've kept hidden."
I pulled off my shirt, revealing the Spectral Spider suit underneath. Her eyes widened even more, and her hand flew to her mouth in shock.
"You're... you're Spider-Man?" she asked in shock.
