Never underestimate the power of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
It's not something you realize
But those things
Bring back the memories of your childhood like no other
All the lunches you ate with your friends at school
Comparing who had the best one
Because we all knew the jelly was the same
No matter what brand
Cause it was all in the bread
And all those competitions you think of
Remind you of the other moments with them
The summers at the pool
Splashing and swimming
Pretending you're mermaids
Sharks
Whales
Divers
Pirates
And anything imaginable to an six year old's mind
The six year old who loved the world as it was
Got mud in her hair
Ran around barefoot
And waved to the ice cream truck
Just to say hi
The little six year old who
Was scared of everything
And nothing at the same time
Who climbed those trees
But was afraid to break bones
Talked back
But was scared to get slapped
And ate the candy in the pantry
But was terrified to get caught
The little six year old
Loved every moment
In the moment
Like eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
To make a bridge between remembering and memories
