"We've lost contact with Boggs," Beetee said. Amara glanced up from her station at the same time the Coin and Plutarch did.

"Where?" she asked.

"They..." Beetee hesitated, glancing over at Amara.

"They appeared to be approaching a pod."

"So they're either in a dead zone or dead," Coin said.

"No," Amara protested. "They can't be dead. They're the Star Squad. There's no one on that field better than them."

"Even the best soldiers die in war," Coin said.

"No," Amara said. "They can't be gone."

"Get me a camera crew. I need to make a statement."

"No!"

Plutarch signaled the guards.

"Get her out of here," he instructed, but she could hear the pain in his voice.

"No!" Amara protested. "They're not dead!"

Amara slumped to the floor and buried her hands in her knees.

"They're not dead," she repeated.

It was in that moment that the screen flickered on. Caesar Flickerman appeared in front of all of them.

"Get me a camera!" Coin yelled.

"No," Amara muttered. There was a flurry of movement and Amara being dragged out was suddenly forgotten. She was left on the floor to watch the horror unfold before her.

"Hello! I'm Caesar Flickerman, here with our continuing coverage of the defense of the Capitol. Today, as our Peacekeepers valiantly hold off the rebels, our story takes a surprising twist."

The screen changed to show the last moments of the Star Squad. They were running between buildings as black tar filled in around them.

"Katniss Everdeen, our once favorite daughter, has infiltrated the city with some of the Victors, whose names are all too familiar: Finnick Odair, Ezra Xyer, Adrien Mackabee, and Peeta Mellark."

Amara watched in horror as Peeta shoved one of the soldiers into the pit of tar and Finnick rushed forward to restrain him.

She stared at Finnick hopefully, praying that he would someone find a way to make it out of there and back home to her.

He promised.

He promised he would survive this so they could see each other again.

He promised.

"Clearly some alliances don't last forever. Take a look at what just happened moments ago when the peacekeepers cornered Katniss Everdeen and her band of foolish rebels. Whatever arrogance brought this treacherous girl back to us, you are about to witness a great victory not only for the Capitol, but for Panem."
