Chapter 13: It Was Not Me

"But—Adie... Adie is... my dweam."

Adie's POV

I was in the living room telling my family that I was the newest member of MASQUE, and they were very supportive of me.

"It's time, anak, to follow your dreams. Marami ka nang sakripisyo para sa pamilya natin," Mama said.

"Si hipag pala, nasaan?" Kuya Donny asked.

"Kuya kasi eh. Ba't mo naman nilasing? Andun natutulog pa," I said.

I was really feeling guilty. My heart was soft for her, especially after what she said last night.

"Gisingin ko lang po muna," I excused myself.

I sat beside her and started waking her up. "Kayla... Kayla."

"Hmm... my head," she groaned.

"Ba't ka kasi uminom ng lambanog?" I asked her. She slowly opened her eyes, then stared at me.

"Galit ka sa 'kin and I don't know why," she said in her bedroom voice. Pogi eh. Nakakarupok.

"Wala... hayaan mo na 'yun. Pero I'm still hurt. Lilipas din 'to. Okay?" I explained, but she was frowning.

"Whatever I did, I'm sorry. I'm sure I had a reason because I wouldn't hurt you on purpose," she said as she sat up.

She tried to hold my hand, but I pulled away, and she didn't try anymore. Ano ba yan, di man lang ako pipilitin. Kainis.

"I already told my family about MASQUE. We can go to Bacolod na," I shared.

"Love, can I still kiss and hug you?" she asked.

"Di mo naman kailangang magpaalam eh," I told her, marupok as ever.

She moved closer to me, and it looked like she was about to cry. She held my face, then kissed me on the cheek. The kiss was soft, and she didn't move for a few seconds, and then I felt my cheek getting wet from her tears.

I was expecting her to kiss me on the lips and be clingy, but she did not do that. She stood up and said, "I'll just take a bath. Can you email boss M to book us a flight na?"

I nodded. I was craving her touch, but I knew she was giving me space.

Time Skip

Kayla didn't talk the whole flight. She was wearing her headphones the entire time. She was right beside me, but I was missing her.

When we got to our hotel, the rest of MASQUE welcomed us. Our room was connected to another, so we just opened the door that was separating them.

"Isang linggong pag-ibig ba?" Clay teased Kayla.

Kayla was sitting on the bed, casually using her vape. After a moment, she put her headphones back on, retreating into her own world.

"LQ?" Stella asked.

"Ui, alam niyo ba! Sila Kayla at Adie 'yung multo sa resort!" Maya exclaimed, making me facepalm.

"Alam ko naman. May basa sa kama eh," Joey said with a disgusted look.

"Eeww!" Shane and Gail said in unison.

"Ano nang balak mo dito?" Maya asked as she put her arm around Kayla's shoulder. The latter obviously couldn't hear us.

"Wala."
