Feeling Alone

Jack was gone. Theo left. Vic was going to DC. Travis going with her. Ben was going back to work at Grey Sloan. Maya was pregnant and taking a leave soon. Robert was being promoted to Battalion Chief.

Andy sighed sitting at her desk in the captain's office looking at a picture of the team from a few years ago.

Her dad was there. Dean was there. Everything was easier then. Andy thought to herself. Andy was stuck in her thoughts when there was a knock on the door. She looked up and called for whoever it was to come in. Vic and Travis came in.

"Hi, Captain," Travis said, closing the door behind them. "Listen,"

"I already know," Andy cut him off. He looked up at Andy.

"Herrera," Once again Andy cut him off.

"Don't. you don't need to say anything." Andy raised her hand. "it's fine. I get it. I get both of you may be feeling stuck here and it's fine. You both do what you need to do." Andy paused and looked at each of them. "If you don't mind, I need to finish the paperwork from the wildfire."

Travis and Vic nodded but Travis was the only one to walk to the door and out after Vic nodded that she would be fine.

Vic took the time to look at Andy when she looked down at the paperwork. She could see the burn marks on her neck and hand and thought back to that day. Seeing Andy pulling Maya through the flames, not caring about her own life, and coming out of it with minor burns that will go away in a few months, was remarkable. Maya managed to come out of it with no wounds, but Andy would have the marks on her for months. She was an amazing captain that day. She's been an amazing captain every day since becoming 19's.

"Andy," Vic called and waited for her to look up. It took a moment but when she did, she looked numb. Vic knew that look. "You're not happy, are you?"

Andy sighed and looked down again. "I..." Andy tried to organize her thoughts. "I'm captain," Andy said, all she could think of.

Vic looked at Andy, a sad smile on her face. "But you're not happy." Vic pushed and watched as Andy stood up and leaned against the desk. "Andy, what's wrong?"

Andy sighed and sat on one of the chairs before her desk while Vic sat on the other. "This just wasn't how I pictured my captaincy going," Andy told her. "Jack's done firefighting. Theo left and is also done after being injured in the wildfire, which you already know since you two got back together. Then there's you and Travis leaving. Ross and Sullivan are probably next. Maya is probably going to be focused on her family and her hours will be all weird." Andy leaned forward, elbows on her thighs. "Things are changing way too fast. And we all know I don't do well with change." Andy finished, rubbing her face. "I don't want a new haul of firefighter's Vic. I want my family with me."

Vic smiled sadly at Andy and grabbed her hand. "We're 19, Andy. We'll always be a family. No matter where we go."

Andy just looked at Vic, wanting to disagree but in her heart, she knew that Vic was right.
