Here For You
Short and sweet.
Andy heard someone knock on her door and sighed. "Come in."
"What is going on in here today?" Maya asked closing the door.
"I choked, Maya," Andy told her, continuing to look down at the papers on her desk.
"I heard what happened, Andy," Maya told her, and Andy looked surprised for a second. "You didn't choke. You didn't have the one tool you needed for that call and whoever stole the Jaws screwed you over." Maya walked closer to Andy. "You did not choke."
Andy just shook her head. "Maya, in the few months I've been captain everyone has been arguing, the equipment has been stolen..." Maya cut Andy off before she could continue.
"That isn't your fault, Andy," Maya told her and stood in front of Andy's desk. "I know you've always had the mindset that everything is on the captain, but you can't watch over the whole team the whole shift."
"Look, I appreciate whatever you're trying to do here but I need to handle this by myself." Andy tried to fight her.
"Captain," Maya said firmly. "You can only do so much. You can't always play peacekeeper." Andy looked at Maya and Maya was surprised to see the emotion in her friends' eyes. "Andy, you know that in this job we have to keep moving forward. There's no life to be lived in the ashes."
"Doesn't make this any easier, Maya," Andy told her. "You know, you were right. I do let my emotions affect my work, but I don't think that's a negative. I think it just shows my passion for this job." Andy told her, remembering what Maya said to her in the bathroom years ago during the blizzard when they were delivering Pru.
"It does. It does show your passion, Andy. It also shows how much you care about this job." Maya told her. "Andy, we're having the pinning ceremony. You're going to get your official Captain's badge and you're going to wear it loud and proud." Maya saw Andy's lips twitch. Point Bishop.
"You always show up for me. Even when I tried not to be your friend at the academy just because we both have vaginas."
"We both have vaginas," Maya said at the same time as they both chuckled, Andy's slightly more emotional having already been teary-eyed.
Andy turned to look at Maya, having been looking out the window of the office. "Can you...It would mean a lot to me if you would be the one to pin me at the ceremony." Andy told her and Maya smiled.
"I would be honoured. Captain Herrera." Maya turned to leave but turned back around. "Oh, I love getting to say that."
Andy smiled and before Maya could leave Andy walked to her and pulled her into an impulsive hug.
