Transfer
Gibson comes out of one of the trucks at the station "He didn't listen"
"We know," Vic told him.
"And why is that? Because our captain put you out in the field with someone who recently smashed your face in." Andy said.
"That's my call. I stand by it." Maya told her, walking away.
"You stand by it? Vasquez could be dead right now, and you stand by it?" Andy turned to look at Maya, disbelief on her face.
"They said they could work together."
"But Maya, you're the captain. You decide who can work together, not the other way around." Andy said, almost willing Maya to understand.
"Herrera." Maya said.
"Andy." Andy turns around to face Jack. "This isn't her fault."
"Everything is the captain's fault. Good or bad, that's the job. The job you wanted." Andy said, turning to face Maya again. "The job you fought for. The job you took!"
"That's right. It's the job I took." Maya said angrily "You have all been disrespectful and insubordinate. You have questioned every single one of my decisions, which costs us lives and costs us time." Maya looked straight at Andy "You don't like that I'm your boss now? Put in a transfer. "
"At this point, there's clearly nowhere for me to go at this station." Andy sighs and some of the A team members know what's coming.
"Andy..." Travis tried to stop her.
"My dad has stopped a promotion to captain for me twice now. And this time Sullivan knew that he was sick and was in on the plan. I bet you didn't know that captain." Andy spit out and looked at Maya "I can't take it anymore. I've been a team player, I've shoved my feelings down. But I'm done. I'm putting in for a transfer today." Everyone at the station watches in shock as Herrera walks away. Not believing what just happened. She's been a part of Station 19 for decades. They can't imagine 19 without Andy.
Vic and Travis follow her to reception and watch as she shuffles through the binders until she finds where the transfer forms are. Before she could reach for a pen they were standing on both sides of her.
"Andy..." Travis starts but doesn't know what to say so Vic talks
"Andy, this station is your dad's legacy. You can't just decide that doesn't matter." Vic said, not noticing the tears dropping from Andy's eyes.
"I know it's my dad's legacy. He's made that very clear. And of course, it matters. I've been around this station since I was born." Andy looks away from the transfer form and up at Vic, showing Vic her face and the tears that were falling, a vulnerable side that Vic hadn't seen before. "I just can't do this anymore, Vic. You've all said that you thought the captain position was mine too. I knew it. You guys knew it. I just can't- I can't anymore. So just let me do this." Andy walks around Vic and grabs a pen "I'm sorry, guys. But I can't stay at a station that's getting me nowhere." Andy said grabbing a form and making her way up the stairs.
Travis and Vic just watch her walk up the stairs, surprised that this just happened. Both walked up the stairs and watched as Andy sat down at the beanery table. Vic and Travis both sitting across from her, watching as tears were still falling down from her eyes. Jack, Ben and a couple of others also joined her at the table, by then the tears had dried though. When Andy was almost done finishing the form Maya walked in and looked over to the table, noting how silent it was
"Andy, I need you to re-stock the Aid Car."
Andy looked up along with the rest of the group, only the group was watching Andy, wondering if she would snap again.
"I need another minute to fill out this form and then I'll go and do it," Andy said calmly, signing the form at the bottom and handing it to Maya. Andy walked out of the room while Maya looked down at the form.
"Wait, so she was serious about transferring?" Maya asked, looking up at the group sitting around the table.
Jack is the one to answer. "Of course she was. She was tired of constantly getting passed on. She was tired of how she was treated. She's tired of this station." Jack pauses and looks up at Maya "You were in the bathroom with her when she was helping give birth to JJ's baby. She literally walked out of the bathroom in tears, and you didn't follow her. You didn't even bother to check on her. Instead, it was Sullivan who did." Jack said, getting up from the table and walked out.
Travis followed, and then Vic and all the others followed too. Andy was the glue of the station. Who knew what would happen to the morale of this place with her gone? They all walked into the barn sadly, everyone deciding that along with the Aid Car, the trucks needed to be stocked as well.
Maya was left standing at the table in the beanery while the rest of the team walked out. She looked down at the sheet and couldn't believe that her best friend wanted out of the station she literally grew up in.
