Part Two
Wasn't even sure if I wanted to write a part two to this so I hope this is okay :)
She loved her Station 19 family, but she felt heartbroken knowing that she would never have a Sunday family barbeque ever again. Andy swallowed back the sob that threatened with that thought and walked Natasha to the door. Andy closed the door and locked it and rushed into her bedroom, closing that door as well and breaking down into loud, heartbreaking sobs. She didn't know how she was going to make it through this.
Two weeks later
Andy had been back at work for two weeks and was working as normal as she normally did. She didn't want any pity. She didn't want anyone to feel sorry for her. A shift had done enough of that for her to last a lifetime. So, she kept her family's deaths to herself.
Andy was in the weight room, working out when Maya decided to confront her finally.
"Okay," Maya said, closing the one open door to the room. "Talk to me. What's going on?" Maya said to Andy, trying to get her attention. Andy put the weight she had in her hand and looked at Maya with a raised eyebrow.
"What are you talking about?" Andy asked, sighing and walking over to the bench press.
"Ever since you took that week off "sick" you've come back and while your professional work hasn't suffered you've been weird," Maya explained.
Andy sighed and began her reps on the bench press. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Maya huffed and walked over to the bench press, spotting Andy to make sure she didn't get injured. "Yes, you do. Andy, you've been isolating yourself, working out two or three times a shift," Bishop went on to list, but Andy cut her off.
"Maya, I'm not you. I can work out without going too far," Andy said, not caring how it may affect Maya.
"Okay, that was a low blow," Maya said, ignoring the hurt she felt but continued. "I know something's wrong because you never attack me like that," Andy groaned and sat up. "Andy, please talk to me."
Andy stood up, grabbed the towel she placed on the treadmill, wiped her face of the sweat that formed and then turned to Maya.
"I'm sorry. You're right. It was a low blow, and you didn't deserve it," Andy said, sighing and sitting on the bench. "Look, nothing is going on. I was sick. That's all, Maya."
Maya watched Andy look her in the eye and she felt inclined to believe her, but she knew how Andy acted when she was grieving. Oh, my god.
"Who died?" Maya asked after a minute of silence. She watched Andy freeze and knew she figured out what was going on with her friend.
Andy looked down, placed her elbows on her thighs and buried her face in her hands. "Maya, Please," Andy begged, looking up. "Just drop this. Please."
"No. Tell me what's going on."
Andy felt tears welling up in her eyes and let one slip down her cheek before looking up at Maya. Andy grabbed her phone and played the same message she played for Ross and when it was done she could feel Maya's shock.
It was silent between the two for what felt like forever when Maya sat beside Andy on the bench.
"What can I do?" Maya asked, thinking about when Andy had lost Ryan.
"What I need is for just one friend one to not look at me like you're looking at me right now.
One friend to just sit next to me and let me talk or not talk or cry or not cry and not have an opinion about it. One friend. That's all I need. Can you be that friend?"Maya thought back to those words. She didn't do Andy right then, but she would now. Maya watched Andy begin to lean into her and quickly wrapped an arm around her.
"I can be that one friend," Maya said and gently grabbed Andy's hand. Maya felt Andy turning and pulled her into a proper hug and her heart broke when Andy began sobbing. Maya tried to calm her with sweet nothings, but Andy continued sobbing when her phone began to ring. Maya looked over and saw that it was Brenda calling. She furrowed her eyebrows. She had no clue who Brenda was, so she let the phone ring. Andy had briefly looked over and sighed when she saw the name.
"She's our cousin. A lawyer somewhere," Andy explained, in a monotone voice. Maya nodded and pulled back. She stood up and reached her hands out for Andy to stand up too.
"Look. I know we might not understand. I know we might not be able to give you what you need right now, but we are here for you, Andy. Always, okay? You don't need to bottle your emotions up like you've clearly been doing these past couple of weeks," Maya said and was thankful when Andy looked at her and nodded. "Go get cleaned up and then meet me in the beanery."
Andy nodded again and walked out of the room, straight to the locker room and then the showers
Maya watched her go and sighed. This was a mess, and she wasn't sure how to help Andy, but she did know that she needed the full support of the team, so she called everyone into the beanery to explain what was going on.
"Maya? What was so important you needed to interrupt us in the middle of chores?" Travis asked, annoyed. Maya sighed, she knew his attitude would quickly change.
"I found out what's been going on with Andy," Maya told everyone and saw Carina walk into the room and smiled softly at her wife. "Her cousin, Tia, Tio and mom were in a car accident a couple of weeks ago," Maya told everyone and walked the different looks of shock on everyone's faces.
"And she decided to keep this all to herself?" Vic asked, hurt that Andy felt like she couldn't come to them.
Maya shook her head. "No, Vic. You don't get to blame Andy. Andy's never been great at telling us what she's going through. She's always been closed off. She's been trying to work through that, but it takes time to work through that kind of thought process. Trust me, if anyone knows, it's me," Maya said and looked at each of them.
"So, what did you expect us to do, Maya?" Robert asked, worried about Andy. Andy was so happy to have them back in her life. He couldn't imagine how devasted she was right now.
"I just wanted us to be on the same page. When Ryan died she never worked through the grief process because of her dad dying so shortly after. Not to mention I got named captain right after I promised to be there for her and then wasn't," Maya looked away from everyone briefly. "I want to be better this time."
Vic and the rest of the team nodded and were sitting in silence when Andy came in.
"Alright," Andy sighed. "Over two weeks ago I got a call that my family had gotten into a car accident," Andy began to explain and raised her hand when she saw that Robert was about to speak. "They were hit by a drunk driver," Andy swallowed back her tears. "Tia and Tio died on impact. My mom and Michelle were on the way to the hospital when they died," Andy told them and sat down at the table. "Look, I don't know what I need yet. I don't know how I'll get through this, but I know being here and working has helped take my mind off of things," Andy told everyone, looking around the room.
Vic and Travis sat down, and they both grabbed one of Andy's hands. They didn't know what to say so they just showed their support in silence. Everyone else sat down at the table too, each wanting Andy to know that she was supported. It was quiet for what seemed like forever when Travis cleared his throat and Andy looked up.
"Andy, I know things haven't been easy for you lately and I know we haven't been the most helpful, but I really hope you'll let us in fully," Jack started. He sighed, stood up, walked up to Andy and crouched down. "You can trust us, Andy. As more than just your team. We're your friends. We're your family. We always will be, Cap," Jack said, rubbing Andy's arm. "Please never forget that." Andy nodded and let Jack pull her into a hug which then turned into a group hug, Maya was the last one hugging Andy as everyone else pulled back.
"We love you, Andy Herrera. Never forget that you can come to us. With anything," Maya pulled back and watched Andy give her a small smile and nod. "I love you so much, Andy."
"I love you too. I love all of you so much," Andy said, eyes teary looking around the table at her team. Her family. Her chosen family meant as much to her as any blood relatives ever could.
