As I'm in the back room organizing the new inventory I hear the bell for the front door chime.
I walk out to see Alastor leaning on the front counter, a charming smile on his face as he looks around the record shop gleefully. I couldn't help the smile that overtook my features.
I walked over to him with a small chuckle. "Ah, you just can't stay away, can you Alastor?" I tease, tilting my head slightly as my smile widens.
He chuckled slightly, a small bit of his own amusement dancing inside his eyes before it became clear he was slightly taken off-guard by me calling his name.
"I see my reputation precedes me and you've somehow figured out who I am." He said, recovering his charming demeanor almost instantly.
I laugh slightly at his reaction. "I didn't realize how popular you were around here." He laughed in return at my remark and tilted his head to the side a small bit.
"I'll take this as a chance to ask how you managed to figure out my name." He inquired, clearly amused and a bit impressed.
My mind drifts back to yesterday with Mimzy. "That's staying a secret for as long as it can." I reply as I place a stack of records down on my counter.
He smiles at my answer, intrigued by the fact I refused to tell him. "I see then, I'll just have to discover for myself." He says cheerfully. He watches me put the records down then looks over all the displayed records curiously.
I watch his gaze go to the pile and I smile. "I just got some new records in, if you want to take a peek."
He smiles with intrigue and moves over to the new collection of records. "Now how could I refuse that offer?" He exclaims cheerfully, clearly excited to browse through the new selections.
"If you want to listen to any, feel free to use the record player. I'm going to finish organizing the storage room quickly." I respond before leaving him alone in the main part of the shop.
I begin to hear a song play a few minutes after and I smile at the choice. He really does have great taste in music.
I close up the last box and put it back on the shelf as I hear the bell to the door ring again.
When I emerge from the storage unit I see Alastor swaying slightly to the tune of the song, a small smile dancing on his face.
I then glance at the entrance and see a younger gentleman looking around. As Alastor continues to quietly sway, the young man continues to look around the record shop with a bored expression on his face.
He then walks to the counter that Alastor is standing behind and clears his throat.
"Excuse me." He calls out to Alastor, crossing his arms and leaning on the small countertop that separated them.
Alastor slowly opens his eyes and looks at the young man. "May I help you?" He asks curiously, tilting his head slightly to the side as he gazes at the man.
"I'm looking for a specific record and I'm wondering if you carry it here." The man says and I lean against the wall interested in what Alastor will say.
It's clear the man thinks Alastor works here, he probably didn't even see me come out of the back room.
Alastor gazes at the young man and nods slightly, then turns to look back at the record player which is currently playing the vinyl records that he had placed on it. The music was calming and slightly jazzy.
He then looked back at the young man. "We most likely have whatever you're looking for, just give me the title." He says cheerfully, a slightly amused smile dancing on, still bobbing his head to the tune playing from the song.
I snicker quietly amused with the fact Alastor is playing along with the man's assumption. "It's Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael." Alastor hums in thought as his eyes trail over to me.
I nod my head indicating that I do have that one in the shop. He looks back at the man and gives a small cheerful smile. "Luckily for you we do have that one in stock." He replies, slowly strolling around the counter towards the young man.
"I believe it should be in the jazz section over here." He hums quietly and gestures to the jazz section, still keeping that slightly amused smile on his face.
I walk back into the storage room and quickly grab the record the man is looking for. I just got it in so it won't be on the floor.
The man follows Alastor over to the jazz section and immediately starts rummaging through the section for the record. Alastor watches him look through the section curiously.
I walked back over and held the record, slightly amused at Alastor's act. I stand behind the counter once again, waiting to see how he handles the situation.
He continues watching the man search to no avail for the record for a moment before leaning against the front counter slightly. Suddenly his eyes drift over to the record in my hands, which made his small smile widen a small bit.
He then looks over at the man, his small smile still plastered to his face. "Still no luck?" He asks kindly, tilting his head in mock curiosity.
"I don't seem to see it here." The man says with a slightly saddened expression. "It is a newer song. Did you perhaps already sell all of the copies you had?"
He hums in thought at the man's response then gazes at him with slight amusement. He then places his hand on his chin in mock thought. "You know I'm not quite sure since I don't work here." Alastor finally responds.
The man turns around from rummaging through the section and looks at Alastor slightly flabbergasted and confused.
"You mean you're just some random guy wandering around the shop?" He asks slightly awkwardly, clearly surprised.
I begin to laugh. "He's just a regular customer. I have your record here if you're ready to check out." I called out to him from the counter.
The man immediately turns his gaze from Alastor's to me with a mixture of slight embarrassment and relief on his face. He immediately walks to the counter and nods. "How much is it?"
"Since it's a new release it will be $1.25." I say with a smile. He nods, reaching into his pocket and digging out the correct change. He places the change for the record on the counter, then looks at Alastor.
"I apologize for the mix up." He then turns back to me. "I guess I just didn't expect for a woman to be the one running a record shop." He says politely and slightly awkwardly.
"It's alright. It was quite entertaining." Alastor says as he walks behind the counter with a new record to play on the record player.
The man gives Alastor a slight nod of acknowledgement then grabs his record that I had handed to him. "Thank you." He says to me before leaving the record shop.
Alastor leans against the counter with a small chuckle. "The look on his face was priceless." He says with a wide smile.
"You like to mess with people don't you?" I ask laughing some more from the situation. He chuckles a small bit and turns towards me, placing the record he had chosen into the record player. The new tune that played was another smooth jazz song.
He continues to stand beside the record player, gazing at me with a small grin on his face. "Why of course." He says with a cheerful smile on his face. "People are so amusing, you never know what you'll get when you meet someone new."
I lean against the counter facing him as I listen to the song he chose. "I'll agree with you there. People are quite fascinating." He hums softly to the tune of the song playing from the record player. He continues to look at me with a small smile as he speaks.
"It just makes life that much more interesting." He says simply, tilting his head a small bit. He continues to lean slightly against the counter, not showing any signs of leaving.
