I look around realizing I don't have a copy of the book. Alastor scoots closer to me and places his book in front of both of us as he begins to whisper in my ear. "They usually have extras but I guess they don't this time. We can share if that works for you though." I can tell my face is beginning to flush as I nod my head.

Alastor notices my slight flushing in response to his words, a hint of a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He moves even closer to me, the proximity almost intimate as he opens the book to the correct page.

"No need to be shy, darling." he says, his voice a soft whisper that only I can hear. "We can share this just fine." I blush even more as I nod. "Works for me." Alastor grins slightly at my response, clearly enjoying the effect he's having on me. He glances down at the pages in front of us, his demeanor still casual and relaxed.

"Good." he says, his voice a bit huskier than before. He shifts slightly wrapped an arm around my waist as his other hand continues to hold the book. I help to hold the book as the older woman directs us to go to chapter one. She begins to read the chapter as we all follow along silently.

As the older woman reads the chapter, the room is silent except for the sound of her voice and the occasional rustling of paper. Alastor remains close to me, his body slightly pressed against mine as we share the book.

He's completely focused on the words on the page, his expression calm and composed. His arm around my waist, however, feels warm and reassuring.

Alastor notices my slight lean into him without seeming to even notice it myself. His arm tightens ever so slightly around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

He glances over at me, his expression still calm and composed, but there's something else in his eyes. A hint of satisfaction, perhaps? I poke him on the forehead before directing my attention back at the book.

With a playful glint in his eye, he leans in and whispers in my ear. "Was that necessary, darling?" I smile as I look back at him. "Very necessary." I whisper back as I can tell some eyes are still on us.

Alastor chuckles quietly, his smile widening at my response. He lets his arm stay around my waist, clearly enjoying the close proximity. He glances around the room, noticing the lingering gazes on us. His expression remains casual, as if completely unbothered by his popularity.

As the meeting progresses, Alastor and I follow along, answering questions and discussing the book with the rest of the group. Alastor's arm remains around my waist the entire time, a constant, grounding presence.

During a pause in the discussion, he leans close and whispers in my ear, his voice playful and amused. "Having fun, darling?" I hum out. "I am. This book club is nice."

Alastor chuckles at my response, his arm around my waist pulling me just a tad closer with each passing second. "Glad you think so, darling. This isn't my usual scene, but I do enjoy it occasionally." He glances around the room, his eyes momentarily meeting his mom's, who gives him a subtle smile before returning her focus to the discussion.

After a few more questions and an open discussion the meeting comes to an end. I'm shocked at how many chapters we covered with the meeting only being a little over an hour.

Alastor, too, seems surprised at the pace of the meeting. He glances down at the pages in the book in front of us, a small grin on his face. "Impressive, isn't it?" he whispers in my ear. "We managed to cover quite a few chapters in just a little over an hour."

"It is." I nod. "It seems as though they're motivated to get through books fast." I notice his mom getting pulled into a small circle of women as their eyes go between each other and us.
