As soon as I woke up the next day I helped Carol make breakfast. It was really quite but I didn't mind. "Erm. Guys." Glenn said to get our attention but no one paid any attention until. "So. The barns full of walkers."
We all looked up at him. He said it. He told us. I pretended to be shocked but no one was looking at me so it didn't matter. All the adults rushed over to the barn to see if it was true. I ran over behind them. "You cannot tell me that you're alright with this." Shane said to Rick.
"I'm not but we're guests here. This isn't our land." Rick reminded Shane.
"This is our lives, man!" Shane yelled.
"Lower your voices." Glenn told Shane.
"We can't just sweep this under the rugs." Andrea added.
"It ain't right." T-Dog muttered.
"Okay, we've either got to go in there, we've got to make things right or wrong we've just got to go. Now we have been talking about Fort Benning for a long time." Shane told us.
"We can't go." Rick said.
"Why, Rick? Why?" Shane asked.
"Because my daughter is out there." Carol reminded him.
"Okay. Okay, I think that it's time to just consider the other possibility." Shane said.
"We're not leaving Sophia behind." Rick told Shane.
"I'm close to finding this girl. I found her damn doll two days ago." Dad interrupted.
"You found her doll, Daryl. That's what you did. You found a doll. Also look what's happened to your own daughter." Shane spat back.
"You don't know what the hell your talking about." Dad yelled back.
"I'm just saying what needs to be said." Shane told everyone. "You get a good lead, it's in the first 48 hours. Let me tell you something else, man. If she was alive out there and saw you coming all methed out with your buck knife and geek ears around your neck, she would run in the other direction." Shane yelled at dad.
I covered my ears and closed my eyes. I suddenly felt someone hugging me. The walkers then started pushing up against the barn and I was pulled back. I looked to see who it was and it was Glenn. "It's okay." He told me and I dropped my hands to hug him.
"No it's not." I muttered.
"Why do you say that?" He asked.
"Because the walkers have taken over." I replied and I walked away.
I went straight to my tent. I grabbed my bag with simple equipment and went into the forest. I walked around, with no destination in mind. As I was walking I saw a berry bush. I walked over to it and picked off a single raspberry. I looked at it and it looked fine so I put it in my mouth. It tasted so nice. I picked lots of different berries and tasting them as I went along. I picked up a strawberry and went to eat it when I remembered that I was allergic to them. I got a plastic bag out of my backpack and put the berries in it. I started to walk back to camp before everyone noticed that I had disappeared. When I got back I went straight to Carol. "Hey, Jas." Carol said as I walked over.
"Hey, Carol. Do you want some berries?" I asked.
I grabbed the bag and opened it. She took a few "Thanks, Jasmine." She said as she ate them. "Where did you get these from?"
"While I was out I saw them." I told her.
"Out? Out where?" She asked suspiciously.
"In the forest." I admitted. "I've got to go."
Carol nodded and I walked off to Carl, he was with his mom. "Do you want some berries?" I asked them.
I opened the bag and passed it over. "Thank you, Jasmine." Lori said as she took some. "They're so fresh."
"They better be, I just picked them." I told them
"Could you pick more?" Lori asked.
"Yeah, there was loads but I had to come back before I got into trouble." I told her.
"Could I go with Jas, mom?" Carl asked.
"Is it far?" Lori asked.
"No. About 10 minutes away from the farm." I told her.
"You can go next time but there has to be an adult with you." Lori told Carl and we both started smiling.
