"How are they?"
Purple glanced up at the sound of Second's voice, watching as the latter sat down across from him, Red following behind him silently.
For a moment, he just stared at Second's disheveled appearance. The guy didn't seem to have had a good nights' rest at all. But then again, who would in such a situation?
"They've been alright." Purple finally said, turning to look at Blue and Green, who sat next to him. "It took a while to get Blue to sleep, but other than that, they've been okay."
Second nodded, sighing. Then he laid back against his chair, closing his eyes.
At the moment, the five of them sat at a table inside a restaurant, having originally planned before to meet up here for breakfast. Purple had arrived first with Blue and Green, so he had already eaten about half of his breakfast before Second showed up.
But even then Second didn't make a move to get breakfast himself.
"Are you going to get anything?" Purple asked after a few minutes of silence. Trying to start a conversation was the only way he could think of to forget about the situation at hand.
Second opened his eyes, sighing softly. "Nah. I'm good. Not hungry."
Purple opened his mouth, about to say something else, but he could tell that it was exhaustion spurring Second forward, so he stopped. Even though the sight of his friend going to sleep so easily was a little unsettling, judging by his appearance, it was also a little reassuring too. At least Second seemed more like his usual, tired self.
So he went back to finishing up his breakfast, eating slowly and quietly. He wanted to savor it, to at least hang onto something that felt real and enticing.
Something real. That felt like a joke now. Nothing felt real anymore.
It wasn't long before Purple finished with his food, and he had to find something else to do once more.
Suddenly, a flash of pink caught his eye, and he stood, almost causing his chair to topple over with the abrupt movement. Unlike the other times he had seen something pink, this was something else entirely. A piece of pink fabric.
Perhaps clothing of some sort.
Now, he knew that just about anyone in the crowd outside could be wearing a pink shirt, but during the whole trip, never once had he seen a flash of pink except during very inconvenient times.
"Second." He said, his voice shaking slightly. Purple kept his eyes trained on the glimpse of pink, his heart rate speeding up. He couldn't lose this chance.
Fortunately, Second woke at the sound of his name. He immediately understood, and stood up too, glancing in the direction that Purple was looking.
The pink was still there. Moving with the breeze. Almost innocently.
"Okay.." Purple murmured, edging closer to the window. "It's one of two options. We make a fool of ourselves, or we actually get some sort of clue to all of what's-"
He paused, realizing that something was wrong. It was when he turned to go inform Second about this feeling that he realized that Second was gone.
Turning again, he saw his friend rushing outside, seeming undeterred by the crowd in his determination to reach the glimpse of pink.
