Scene III
Young America POV (Jan 12)
China tried to talk to me during the morning when were waiting to go to our classes. I ignored him by talking to my sister. She pulled him away to talk instantly. So far so good. Part one is complete. Now I have to try avoiding him for the rest of the day. The bell rings. I throw my empty plate and put my backpack on.
I usually sit alone in the corner of the cafeteria where no one could bother me or find me. It's not that I want to sit here, it's because I'm not accepted in any of the groups here. I talk to everyone, but they dont seem to bond with me like how they do with others. So I stay aside, feeling as a burden that many have to carry. I like it this way though. I can read, write, and wonder about what's up there. Are there supernatural beings? Are there monsters? Or are there dragons? It's all a mystery that I will soon find out.
I spot China walking with his friends from the other side of the cafeteria. So far he hasn't found where I sit which I'm grateful for. But soon enough I need to switch my spot to be able to avoid him. I scurry past a couple of students and I think that caught his attention. "美国!" I hear his voice through the crowd of people. I didn't hear him. I didn't hear him. Union, it's all in your imagination! Wait, there she is!
"Hi Phil!" I wave at my best friend in the hallway, hoping that talking to her will stop his pursuit of coming towards me. Philippines stops talking to her friends and comes to me, hugging me tightly.
"Uni!" She smiles widely. "I missed you!"
I giggle, "it has only been two days!"
"Well, thats a long time." She rolls her eyes jokingly. She's so silly sometimes.
"So," I smirk, nudging her arm a little. "Have you been thinking of your someone lately?"
Her face immediately morphs into one of nervousness and embarrassment. She looked around before whispering in my ear. "Yes, I've been thinking about him a lot," she stutters. "Too much to be exact!" She adds quickly.
I wiggle my eyebrows, "Phil is in love."
"Keep it a secret," she shushes me, placing a finger over her lips.
"What do you like about him?" I tease.
She blushes, covering her face, "he's so handsome and helpful. If it wasn't for him, I would've been beaten to death by my bullies. Apparently they like him too so if I stay close to him they won't bother me anymore!" She smiles sheepishly.
I nod, "seems reasonable. I heard everyone likes China."
"He likes me more than anyone. He told me I have pretty eyes and people should adore my beauty more often. Couldn't you believe it? He said I'm the prettiest girl in existence!" She shrieks with thrill.
I laugh along. Isn't that the same thing he said about me? About Confederate? And now Philippines? "You are beautiful!" I side hug her.
"Thanks," she smiles warmly. Philippines pauses, her face turning into one of worry. I frown. Did I say something wrong? "Do you like China?" She asks.
"Me? No. I consider him a friend." I say.
She mumbles, "that's what everyone says."
"Phil, I don't like him." I say sternly, staring deeply into her eyes. "You know me." I don't and will not love another.
She shrugs, indifferent to my words, "okay. I'll see you later then!" She runs off to her friends who are playing at the swing set. I set my bookbag down on the ground and make my way to a secluded part of the yard. Why would she think I like China? He is too good for me. And why would he like me? I'm younger. I'm chubby. I'm ugly. He's weird—in a good way.
