Scene XIV
Young America POV (Three months later)
I stroll around the hallway looking for the attendance office. In math class we have a substitute teacher and he asked if anyone would bring the attendance down. I volunteered, of course, so I can leave my chaotic class and find some peace.
Life has been great. Canada has been treating me right. He and China are friends now apparently. They look happy talking to each other. I'm happy for China and him. Father has been treating me nicely and he often scolds Confederate. Confederate, well, she's still sour about the incident. But it's alright. She doesn't blame me for it—I hope.
China and I, we've gotten closer. A lot closer. Physically and figuratively. I would go to his house sometimes to watch movies with him and his brother. It usually ended with a sleepover with Italy covering for me. China, his kisses are so addicting that I don't ever want him to stop sometimes. He's amazing and I'm so happy he's my boyfriend. I love him. I love him a lot. I love him a hell lot!
As I made it to the office, the door opened. I freak out and hide behind some lockers. The door slams shut and I hear some mumbles. I peak over the corner and see China, glaring at a paper he's holding. Then he crumples it up and throws it to the ground. I swallow, scratching my arm nervously. What is that paper about?
China picks up the note again and throws it at the ground. He then steps on it a few times, cursing in his native tongue. I stay silent, watching him. What made him this angry? I've never seen him acting like this at school. If he was ever mad he would go home and punch his punching bag.
Okay Union. Now pretend you didn't see him do all that. You need to hand this attendance paper in. You got this. I step out from my hiding place, pretending to look at my attendance paper. I can tell China noticed me because he quickly picked up the paper.
I look up and smile at him, "hi China! What are you doing here?"
"Hi 美国! The principal just needed to talk to me," he says cheerfully, but I can tell that he's pretending to be happy. I then turn my attention to the paper he's holding which he quickly shoves in his pocket when he notices me looking.
"What's that?" I ask.
China smiles at me nervously. "It's nothing. What are you doing?" He asks, trying to stray away from my interest to another topic.
"I'm going to hand in the attendance paper," I show him the paper. He nods, holding my hand.
"I will come with you, after all this is my lunch period." He grins.
I nod. As we walk, I can't help but ask if he's okay. He doesn't look okay and he certainly doesn't act okay. He would look around the hallway and then check the watch I gave him a couple times. It's as if he's checking if anyone's stalking us. I hand in the attendance sheet then pull China into the janitor's closet. "China, something's going on." I say, staring intently into his perfect hazel eyes.
"Nothing's going on. Nothing is." China smiles. I hate it when he lies to me but he doesn't hide the fact he's lying.
"China," I mumble sadly. "I want the best for you. I hate it when you're like this." I look at the ground, holding his hands tightly. I hate it when he lies to me.
He sighs softly, "the truth is...I'm expelled."
I stare at him, shocked, appalled, frightened, and dismayed by the news. No no no no no no no, he has to be lying. There's no way he's not. He must be testing my love for him. "China, what did you do? You're the perfect student. The perfect role model. There has to be some sort of mistake. You can't leave me!" I say, not taking a breath between my sentences. I stare at him, as tears flow down my cheeks. "Please tell me you're lying..." I whisper, hopefully, but his eyes say something different.
