East sat in his dimly lit office, the glow of the computer screen casting a harsh light on his furrowed brow. Since Tory's surprise party, East had been on edge. His wife, Lia, was now pregnant, and he had been keeping his distance. The complications of their family's were mounting, and the tension was almost unbearable. He was deep into his work, laundering money for his businesses, when a knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
"Come in," he called, not taking his eyes off the screen.
The door creaked open, and Tory entered the room. He took a seat, his face mirroring the exhaustion and frustration that East felt.
"It was opening night of the club," Tory began, his voice tinged with regret. "Bianca was upset that you didn't give her any attention that night. You've been so focused on cleaning that money for your pops. I thought if I listened to her, let her vent, it would help, but she wasn't on that. I had a few drinks, celebrating our successful night, and before I knew it, she just came on to me. It was just a kiss."
East's muscles, tense and coiled like springs, began to relax as he listened to Torys confession. He could hear the sincerity in Torys voice.
"She tried to sleep with me," Tory continued. "But I kept reminding her you two were together. I knew you loved her, but you were more focused on family business, and she was just there. I'm sorry about all this."
East let out a long breath, leaning back in his chair. "Well, I really see who she is now. She was never really in love with me. I guess it is what it is. No more secrets between us."
The weight of the truth lifted a burden from both men. For two years, Bianca had taunted Tory about that kiss, using it to manipulate him. Now, she no longer held that power. East and Tory shared a moment of silent understanding, the air between them now clearer than ever.
Tory left, feeling a sense of relief but knowing he still had issues to resolve at home. He arrived to the sound of his daughter, Royalty, calling out, "Daddy's home!" She ran to him, and he scooped her up, kissing her face.
"Hi baby, where's mommy?" he asked, his voice softening as he played with his daughter.
Mariah appeared, purse and keys in hand. "Good, you're home. I need to go to the store," she said briskly.
"We need to talk," Tory insisted, but Mariah avoided his gaze.
"I don't want to talk, I don't want to deal with you right now. Just as much as you may have cheated or whatever, I never had a choice to begin with. Catering to you, being a housewife-what about me? What about what I want? I never had a choice, right?"
Her voice wavered, but she refused to cry. She was determined to stay strong, especially in front of their daughter. "Like I said, I'll be back. Watch her."
